Hey gang..noticed there are several threads on securing cameras to prevent theft in the timber.I purchased my first Camtrakker in 1989
when these things were in little or no use across the U.S..Over time
I have developed hundreds of rolls of film and lost only one camera.
And that one camera was my fault,it was placed next to an idle 4-wheeler
trail, when I returned to get the unit the trail wasn't idle anymore.
When I first started it was fun just tryin' to get a pic of any deer, like this one in the photo.
After a while I started using the unit to try and get pics of horns. The best success came from scrapes and rub lines.I quickly found out that by using scents to attract bucks would not only get me pics but would let me see what scents worked the best!
But the really nice bucks were still avoiding my setups.I purchased more cameras, tried more scents, started using rubber gloves/boots with the same results. It wasn't until a hunt Southeast Oklahoma that I realized a
step that had been overlooked...I wasn't 'hiding' the unit.Just like with a hunting setup you must pick the most advantageous spot to ambush mature bucks. Some spots just won't work due to the unit tipping off the locale. And by sticking to this rule my mature buck pics increased dramatically.A plus to this is if you are hiding it well enough from the eyes and nose of a mature buck it is gonna be overlooked by the thiefs in the timber.I still padlock my units but if someone wants it bad enough they are gonna get it regardless of deterant.I use Cuddebak,Deercam 35mm and Leaf River 35mm.My favorite scent is Real Deer.Hope this helps, good luck.
