Do you think the flash on a trail cam scares deer away?
Yes it scares them and continued use will drive them away.
No, it is like a quick flash. They think nothing of it.
I couldn't give a honest educated response.
I don’t use trail cameras

I think it probably piques curiosity (hence the closeup second and third shots often seen). OTher than that they could care less.

I have had pictures where it does bring them in closer for a second look, but also pictures where the second one is of a rear end high tailing it out of there as if spooked.
That being said, a day or two later, that same deer is in another batch of pictures. So if it does spook them, I don't think it's enough to truly affect the deers patterns as it would being spooked by a hunter.
However, I have yet to have a really mature buck in front of mine either to see how he'd react. Based on some others I've seen, I don't think it really matters.

I do not use em. From the sequenced photos I've seen, the deer react differently to the flash / click.

I have been using one for the first time this summer. I have a series of photos of the same buck coming back to the same spot continually. I don't think it spooks them to the point they won't come back.

The best answer that I can give is that it depends on the individual buck. I have had deer that I've had multiple closeup pictures of that didn't seem to be bothered by it. I also had a young buck last year that I had gotten about 7 pics of, he came almost every night to my camera setup until I got an extreme closeup of him on the eigth night. He never showed up again in the two weeks I left the camera in that position.

I think it has to at least scare them. Maybe they get used to it, i dunno. But i know if you miss a deer with an arrow they seem to run off, you miss enough times they won't come back! That part i unfortunately know! Lug
