I knew it was too good to last! Colorado has traditionally allocated up to 40% of their big game licenses to non residents, but that is apparently about to change. I know this is an Indiana board, but many of you may also travel to Colorado to hunt. Please be aware that a committee of Colorado hunters, outfitters, and landowners has been formed to try and change the Colorado regulations regarding license allocation for out-of-staters. If they have their way, our future hunting trips to Colorado may be in peril, or at the very least, much more expensive and more difficult to draw a license for. I would encourage anyone who hunts there, or is thinking of doing so someday, to consider sending in your input to the CDOW before the August 5th deadline. You can read about this committee and their proposals here: wildlife.state.co.us/hunt/BigGame/License_Allocation/index.asp

It's an Indiana board , but we can talk hunting in any state or province that you want to. There are no state boundaries on hunting.
I've spent many a happy day in the mountains of Colorado chasing mulies and elk.
Is there anything we can do?
Thanks for posting.

Woody- Thanks. As far as what can we do....not a lot probably. But it would help to have as many guys as possible fill out the input form on the CDOW website. I am sure that doing nothing will definitely not get any results. I completed one of the forms and emailed it to the address given....this only took me 15 minutes or so.
I am mainly opposed to giving outfitters part of "our" tags, and also opposed to the sharp reductions in the NR tag allocation that is proposed. Also they are proposing to raise fees for applicants who FAIL to draw a tag, with several options, ranging from 1 proposal of a new 40.00 app fee, all the way up to the full price of a license.

I had wondered when the impact of Senator Harry Reid's little stunt would begin to be felt.
Many of the hunters and outfitters in the western states seem determined to kill the goose with the golden eggs.
