The Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is a strong supporter of our nation's firearm manufacturers and today we are urging our Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership partners to show that support by contacting your Senator and asking them to "VOTE YES" on Senate Bill 397 the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act." S.397 will prevent reckless lawsuits against firearm manufacturers attempting to hold them liable for the criminal acts of third parties. This legislation is desperately needed to shield lawful firearm manufacturers from lawsuits filed with the intent of driving the industry out of business.
Also of significance to every Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership member that hunts with a firearm is the potential serious impact that irresponsible lawsuits could have upon the budgets of state fish and wildlife agencies. The excise taxes imposed on firearms generate a major portion of the revenue used by state game and fish agencies for wildlife restoration projects, hunter safety training and countless other projects that benefit wildlife and game animals. Anyone who values wildlife should be concerned about the possible loss of funding that could result if the viability of America's firearms manufacturers is placed in jeopardy.

Subject: Please Support S. 397
Dear Senator,
I'm writing to ask your support in protecting the jobs of honest Americans who are innocent of wrongdoing. Baseless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry are putting thousands of manufacturing jobs in that sector at risk. Now, this spreading abuse of the legal system has begun to threaten other industries and the companies that sell their manufactured goods.
Please vote for S. 397, a bill to prohibit civil liability actions from being brought or continued against manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse of their products by others.
This bill does not provide "blanket immunity" and allows lawsuits to proceed against defective products and those who are negligent or engaged in criminal activity. The fact is our court system is being manipulated to financially destroy law-abiding manufacturers, distributors and retailers by blaming them for cri! minal misuse of their products. Thousands could lose their jobs if even one of these unfair lawsuits succeeds. We must eliminate "junk lawsuits" and the threat they pose to all of American industry.
Similar legislation has already been enacted in over 30 states. The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which passed in the House of Representatives last year by an overwhelming bi-partisan margin, has 55 co-sponsors in the Senate and 200 in the House. Please ensure this important common sense reform is enacted by supporting a clean bill with no "poison pill" amendments designed to defeat the bill, not improve it.
Passage of this legislation is important to me, to our nation's economy, and to the 40 million Americans who each year safely enjoy recreational shooting and hunting with firearms. Please support S. 397.
Sincerely,
