hello, I posted on another forum about getting my son, whom is 10, into a class. Last year he walked with me while I hunted and a few days ago he expressed great interest in hunting this season. I searched the web and DNR site and found all classes stopped in mid Nov. 2007. I am very concerned that, as most children do, he will lose interest if he can't use his shot gun that he has been working with. I really want him to attend a class soon or I may lose a future hunter. Please give me some insight into this. Thankyou Kraig Perkins

Thankyou Kraig Perkins I looked too and I coudl not find anything for the rest of the year or early next year. Why don't you sit down with him and do it On-Line? Here is the site where you can do that.. www.hunter-ed.com/in/index.htm

It states he has to be 12 and you have to enter his DOB. I just wish somehow classes could be conducted throught the hunting season. It could have a real impact on the youth, unable to hunt when the interest is at it's peak. I would have got him in earlier but until he seen me getting ready for the upcoming season is when he really wanted to take part in it. Thank you for trying to help me find something.

hey sbfd410, my two cents, just keep taking him and AND JUST ASK IF HE WANTS TO GO(NO PRESURE) show him the outdoor world, theres' alot out there besides hunting, just don't stop taking him when the seasons over, drive around and take photos, go to state parks nature centers and go scouting for next year and turkey hunting and scouting is a great way to keep the interest going and sharing the togetherness and hunting together, sport shows, cabela's and gander mountains stores. just a few ideas. good luck on getting in to hunter ed....TAKE A YOUNGSTER ON YOUR NEXT OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE.......turkey scout

I know thw group I teach with stops doing classes in October. We spend as much of the hunting season in the field with our friends and family. Usually the classes start pretty regular in February or March

Thanks turkeyscout. I showed him your post and hopefully with the regular turkeys we raise, he gets to see the wild ones that come up from the woods to socialize, and your great ideas I can keep him going. I guess I will have to just keep him walking with me during the hunt. Thanks again.
