1. How do I get trained to teach a hunter ed class?
2. How do I get a class set up at my location? I have a fellowship hall. What is the cost?
Thanks!

Answer 1: Take a hunter Ed class and pass with a score of 90 or better. Fill out the application and pass a background check. Then I recommend going to the Instructor Academy next August. The INHEA (Indiana Hunter Education Association) coordinates the academy and there is a wealth of knowledge to be gained by attending. Answer 2: Contact the County Coordinator in you area or a CO. Bonus Advise: Get involved with a group that teaches hunter ed. We have a class in Indy at the UAW 933 Union Hall October 22 you can sign up for it on our web site. www.district9conservation.com

I'm glad you asked that! I was going to ask the exact same thing. When talking to the school they said they no longer offered it at the school. Anyone know why it was taken out of schools? I remember it being required when I attened. We had it in like the 5th or 6th grade! The teacher said that he could be certified to do it, but didn't see the need in it? ? Anyone still have a school around that it is offered at?

The city school in the County has it, but the County school do not. They used to, but it has faded out. I would love for all school systems to have it. Our school has it in 6th grade as a part of their Health and Safety class.

I remember back in the days of youth.... when hunters ed was taught in Jr High School.... (of course at that point I had already been hunting small game for years and had a couple years of deer hunting under my belt)... I just don't understand why they take it out of the school and then make it mandentory for any youth to be able to get a license.
Maybe if we petition the local board of education we could get it reinstated? I am not sure who makes the decision on what is and is not taught in public schools.

I also remember way back in the days of my youth in North Florida ,our shop teacher was a great guy who loved to hunt and fish. He also taught any one interested, Firearm safety, and how to shoot and Hunt. many days I would bring my rifle to school early in the AM.The Shop teacher would put my rifle in the closet and after class I would hunt rabbits on the way home. No one really paid much attention to this,as several teachers as well as many students were hunters. I know how times have changed and this would not work now,You can not even mention a gun or hunting in school. Also I guess any thing to do with hunting ,firearms, bows, self defense is not politicaly correct.

I'm pretty sure that the JR. Highs in Warrick County offer it.
We have a "Tecumseh Day" at Red Brush Rifle Range where the Tecumseh Kids come and shoot.
