We still have a few roasts and bags of stew cubes left over , I've been careful to ration it so that it would last until the next season . Better get busy eating it now though ! ;D

We have about 20 packages left. All burger and sausage. That helps reduce some of the urgency to the start of the season.

6 deer almost gone.....about 30lbs of burger that I am going to attempt to make into summer sausage. I bought a kit from Cabelas, anyone ever use one? Comes with the seasoning, casings..the directions seemed vague. Solohunter

solohunter,
ive made summer sausage for several years now but not from a kit. most people who have eaten mine say its as good as what you get from a butcher shop. if you are interested in how i make mine send me a pm. the process should be pretty much the same as with you kit. h.h.

I still have a lot of meat left from two deer. I will probably end up giving quite a bit of last years meat away if I take a deer this year. My family just can't eat it fast enough. I am pretty much the only one who eats much of it. My wife will eat some roast and a little tenderloin but she won't hardly touch the burger...says she doesn't like the smell of it when it is cooking. I love it myself, but I just can't get her to fix it, so I am the only one who cooks the venison and I am too lazy to get at it more than every couple of weeks. When I do cook it, I try to make a bunch so that i can eat it for a whole week.

I have 1 pak of backstraps. 3# of breakfast sausage, and about 4# of stew meat. It's going to be just right.

I have none in the freezer. But then again, I didn't put any in there last year! The one doe I shot I gave to somebody. I plan on putting at least a few pounds in the freezer this year, but probably not a whole deer (at least for us- I'll keep a bunch in the freezer for our daycare provider and take it to her as needed). My wife won't eat venison, but I'm tempted to tell her to go hungry if she won't eat it...
