As we remember our heros this time of year, a number of patriotic songs get airtime. There are far too many to list, but here are a few favorites of mine. I tried to pick songs most everyone knew. If yours isn't listed, tell us what it is!
Of the more traditional tunes, it's hard to pick, but I really dig "Stars And Stripes Forever." Of the more recent Songs, I have to go with Charlie Daniels "In America." I have to commit though, so for it's beautiful lyrics, I pick "America the Beautiful."

All are good choices, so much so that it was hard to choose one, but if it had to be just one Proud to be an American would be my choice. "Have You Forgotten" by Darryl Worley and "Ragged Old Flag" by Johnny Cash are also very good patriotic songs.

Toby & Willie - "Beer For My Horses" - it's kinda patriotic.....

Okay, I have to admit I'm biased... ;D
I chose "The Stars and Stripes Forever" because it was the fight song for my middle school (I "graduated" valedictorian there in 1996) and the high school I attended for a semester in Geronimo, TX. I had to memorize it because I was in the high school marching band as an 8th grader, which went to all football games and, of course, played the "fight song"...

For me it is between American The Beautiful and maybe that Ragged old Flag. But then again I stand a little straighter, square my old shoulders a little more stand a parade rest with my hat over my heart and stare at the flag when they play the National Anthem at sporting events. There are just way to many to have only one favorite and it seems as most bring a sense of joy and maybe goose bumps just upon the hearing of them.

No more live performances of that! parson DITTO...I saw Ray Charles live at the IU Auditorium several years ago when I was a student there, and I believe he sang "America the Beautiful". I think he sings that song better than anyone has ever sung it!

God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood is my favorite form the list... as well as one of my favorite songs of all times.... My Grandpa (WWII vet)loved that song and said it spoke volumes about how he felt about this country and our way of life...... He was the man that inspired me to join the service and I became a better man for it. Sadly we lost him last August at the age of 86.

America the Beautiful
By dang near anyone, I remember learning that song in grade school, and I wasn't much for singing. Took the cog railroad up to Pikes Peak and got to see the view that inspired the writer. It was awsome!

Hi--this is "Henderson"'s wife. I apologize for his inability to proof-read his posts. When he wrote "Walkin' on the Side of Me" as a song title, he was actually refering to the Merle Haggard song "...the Fightin' Side of Me;" just in case anyone was confused by that. Had I seen his list prior to his posting, I would have asked him to include "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "My Country 'Tis of Thee" as well. "God of Our Fathers" was always played in church near Memorial day and Armed Services day also, but isn't quite as America-specific, I guess.

No wonder no one picked that one.. Good picks on your songs....especially "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"

Woody, you are supposed to be on my side! She's right though, I really botched this one. "walking on the side of me" sounds like a song about massage therapy. Also, "Proud to be an American" should be "God Bless the USA." And "Courtesy" should be, "The Angry American," though I'm sure everybody knew that. That's what I get for posting after I've been up all night working.

It don't matter they are all good picks even the ones you didn't put in the poll and the ones you retitled. I didn't know the actual titles of the newer ones, but knew what songs you were talking about.
