They are all over the place. I picked up an issue of prarie farmer at the library the other day and they had an ad in there.
I moved to a new area of the State two years ago so I had to find some new places to deer hunt. I worked very hard at it and I now have 3 places with the furthest being 25 minutes out my front door although none are very big and I don't take anyone else. It does take time though and I think for people with the extra money its much easier to have someone else find the land for you and write a check.
I make a decent living but my wife and I are in agreement that her staying home with the kids is more important than having luxuries like a lease. Also, I always like having a few places to hunt.

1st of all..why do landowners lease?? Of the properties I hunt..the main reason for leasing or management is to KEEP others OUT. Get out there and talk to landowners if you want ground. My take is that if your responsible, and willing to work with the landowner..you may have a better shot than a NR who will not provide the additional benefits.

Leases are a big money making thing. Me and my buddies lost our lease recently because a group of boys (from Illinois) told the owner they would double what we were paying him for the land. Well of course being a buisness man he took thier offer when we refused to match it. When all was said and done we acted like it didn't bother us to much. (he knew we were not happy but we were not overly rude) and we told him to just call us when they trashed his land and he got rid of them and we would take it back for what we were paying before. on a side note I drive by there on occasion and there are not tire trackes running through the field (around the gates on the drive) so I think (hope) it won't be to long until they are gone.

My friend in Florida got out of his lease because the lease went up 2000.00 a year for the last two years in a row. This year it went to 6500.00. When he started it was 2500.00. Most of the people in the lease are very wealthy and money doesn't matter to them. Leasing will price the average guy out of the woods in a few years. h.h.

I truly believe that between the company leases, the high wage makers (two to a family), outfitters that want to offer more than just cages to kill out of that the average hunter will end up with nothing but public land to hunt.
