why would you want to put your only buck tag on a button buck you thought was a doe and intended on tagging as a doe? the state says its antlerless so thats good enough for me. h.h.

tag says antlerless. That is what it gets. What would you call one that weighed 185, had a penis but no testicles? A buck or Antlerless? MARRIED

Thats just it Hoyt1166, it doesn't have to be up to the landowners.A prime example would be the OBR, inwhich i believe is failing badly due to the number of bucks harvested each year. Its obvious if left up to each sportsman then it would be less than 3% of landowners using a quality deer management scheme. Since its the states deer, its up to them on how to manage them, and leaving it up to the landowners to manage the states deer herd is unprofessional, and its obviously once again not going to work.
If/when i shoot a button buck, and it has less than 3 inches,,,he's and she...and gets the doe tag. I coulndn't possibly imagine someone putting their one buck tag a button buck! In fact i'm not even sure its legal to put a buck tag on a button buck. Someone might wanna ask one of our CO's..

We leave it up to the state to decide some things and say that's good enough for me. However, when the state does something that someone doesn't like (OBR, for example) then it's not okay. People can rely upon the state all they want but remember that the state isn't managing the herd on a local level. They're doing it on a macro level. That's why I say it is up to us to do what we can where we live.

Hoyt.
The deer herd is better off being managed by the state. You talk to most farmers and they would just as soon see as many deer killed as possible. They eat their profits and it cost quite a bit to be a farmer. Did you pay 150 to 200 K for a combine and that is a smaller one. Most hunters do not own their own hunting land. If you can get hunters in your area to do a qdm then you are lucky. There is a place about 1/2's of a mile from where I can hunt that has some cattle. Every couple of years a bunch of people get together and have a big drive during firearms. It is a slaughter.
