There were a ton of rabbits back there but they were all smarter than me. There was tracks and pellets everywhere but I didn't have a dog and it was too cold, snowy, and wet to go prone and play rodent sniper. I'd bet that if we went back this year with some dogs we'd do well.

A Sunday would be great, had a great time out at Wilbur Wright last time. Happy to drive down your way this year! I spent an entire day walking Wilbur Wright last year by myself and with no dogs. I didn't see any rabbits which makes sense to me now, but there was fresh snow so I did see a ton of tracks and heaps of pellets everywhere. I kept hoping that I'd get lucky and spook a dumb one or catch somebody napping but they were on high alert that day I guess. I was spoiled hunting rabbits as a kid. We just laid down prone on our back porch with 22's and picked them off as they raided our vegetable patch. I never had occasion to learn any other techniques. Except for snare setting but that's not what we're talking about here. December is fine with me. I'd love to go back to Wilbur Wright with some pros and their dogs and redeem myself.

MOSS: you would need to get that same date for that same property and for that same area in order to hunt with him. TolusD: if you don't have your 2 birds by 2:00 pm the odds are real good you won't get both of your birds that day. And yes you can go anywhere on the property however no guests only those who paid to hunt on that day. nfalls116: These rules apply to 3 preserves that I am familiar with. This follows the rules I've read so far. There are no guests allowed, you can book multiple spots in the hunts but they all cost money. I'm not sure how many spots are left but I'm not opposed to booking a couple more if it means we can get a group together to go out.

Only the persons that are signed up for each area can hunt in that area, such as if you are in area 20 B only those persons assigned 20 b can hunt in area 20 B. You should get an area map of the properties you hunt so you know where you are at when your hunting. Only the persons assigned those areas will be allowed in those areas,no guests. Yeah, I saw that but I didn't see a map available. It said the boundaries only applied until 2:00PM though. After that it said you could go anywhere on that property. But either way, I'm planning to get a map and then use the gps in my phone to make sure I stay in bounds.

If I can find a place to go, I want to take my HK 416 .22 out. I finally got the trigger worked out and it's a tack driver now. There are some monster reds in my neighborhood, but I live in the city. I picked up a case of Aguila Sniper Subsonic rounds though. I couldn't find them for years but they're available again. 60 grains of lead moving just fast enough to cycle the action in the HK. I took many a squirrel with them out of my old 10/22.

I would love to go and I don't mind driving if it means I'll get some field time with the pros.

With the current administration, I think the commander in chief will let his generals get the job done if/when this thing starts. I don't think this one will be the "fair" wars we've seen recently.
I also don't think we'll move a muscle until one of those missile tests drops into Japan or they actually attack Guam. The only way we can remove the fat psychopath without going to war with Russia and China is if we let them strike the first blow and hope the casualties are low. We've spent 50 years getting backed into this corner and we can't take the first step out of it without starting a world war at this point.
My 2 cents anyway.

I don't have any dogs at all, but I have all of those other things. I was hoping to find some people here with similar dates or who might be willing to go with me. I looked, but I didn't see any kind of organized group hunt or anything like what we have here for deer or squirrels. Is there a reason that we don't try and coordinate and go as a group?

I've been shooting trap as much as I can to prepare for the put and takes and I just signed up for 2 hunts this morning. I got a little ahead of myself being excited and I don't know much about the terrain I chose. I also don't have anyone to hunt with so I figured I'd post in here and hope find some advice or a group to tag along with. In hindsight I should have started here then signed up for the hunts but as I said, I got excited and didn't know how long there would be open spots.
Here are the hunts I signed up for:
J. E. Roush Lake Fish and Wildlife Area 20 B on November 18th
Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area D1 on November 23rd

Cat ID?

Why are so many people so concerned of the possibility of Indiana having cougars again that they simply cannot accept that we have a healthy and growing population of bobcats? Do some research people. Bobcats are not just a little bigger version of fluffy you have a home. I can believe it for sure. I've been telling people forever that I find "way bigger than housecat" cat tracks in the mud at my fishing hole. They never believe me but I've seen them creeping around in the woods at night around there too. I always use dead fall to box myself in against the shore and set string alarms behind me just in case.

Take a tube of Sour Cream and Onion Pringles and put them into your blender or food processor with 1/2 a cup of corn meal, 1/2 a cup of flour, and 1/2 a cup of rice flour. Mix in a teaspoon each of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika and then blend until it's a fine powder. Double or triple this recipe and you can make a year's supply at a time and keep it in your freezer in a ziploc bag like you've been doing. You can adjust the salt if you like it more or less also. I've never found a better fry mix I could by. I made up this recipe years ago when I had a mess of catfish to fry but not enough flour left to make a proper fry mix. I tried it once with corn flakes instead of pringles and it was still amazing. I just made a batch of this with a bag of Doritos instead of the Pringles and cornmeal. I tested it on some chicken and wow... fantastic! We're going after catfish this weekend so if we do well enough I'll post some pics of the delicious results.

They love grubs too and if your yard is like mine, it's packed with em right now just under the edges of any landscaping or other object where there's a break in the sod. We're going out this weekend and I've been collecting them all week. I have about 2 dozen already.

I think I saw that one in the paper. Owner says his name is Mr. Fluffykins. There's a $5 reward if that's really him.

This is the first of a series on reloading that I learned a lot from. Enough to become comfortable with the procedures. BTW, this is the same system I load on and it's from Amazon. Hope this is of some help. Wade www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lDL9tUnfVQThat's actually very helpful Wade, I appreciate it. Now I have something to watch on my lunch break.

I just bought my press and dies in this year.Of course, you need to have a good idea of what you need and do some research but after that, I found the best price for press and die to be Amazon. I do have prime which saves a shipping charge but on every die set I have they were cheaper that Midway. Hope this helps. Wade WAY-WAY back in 1968, I purchased my first reloading press an RCBS Jr from Harry McGowen. Came with a set of RCBS reloading dies too. Cost me a "Whopping" $38.00 + postage. I still have it and have reloaded thousands of rounds of various calibers. I started reloading for my .222 using a "Lee Loader" back in 1965. When I was heavy into trap shooting I used to reload 12 gauge shells on a MEC 600 so I'm familiar with the general principles but still inexperienced with things like case cleaning and resizing operations and the like. I'm reading a lot now though. I also have Amazon Prime and if I can bounce between sales from them and sales from Midway I should be good. Thanks a ton guys.

So are you completely new to turkey hunting, or just on public land? I've chased them mostly on public land myself for the past several years, and although finding birds is usually not a problem, I've never been able to seal the deal. I usually wind up chasing one around in circles all day. I've hunted turkeys once and it was my first time so my buddies who had already bagged their birds set me up in a blind made of cut tree limbs propped up against a big oak tree. I sat down against the tree with one knee up for my shotgun and waited while everyone else called them in and pushed from across the property towards me. After hours of sitting there in the cold on a patch of damp moss, the birds finally came into the clearing in front of me and started moving towards me. That's when I clicked my safety off. Needless to say, in half a second there were 0 birds visible. Turkeys are America's Forest Ninjas if you ask me. I harvest mine from the freezer case. I get made fun of way less that way.

Nice! I appreciate the pic also. Do you have any advice on where to get a good price on reloading gear?
