Have you given up on the natural source you used before, or just looking for something to supplement? Nah I gave that up long ago 🤣

In MANY years of hunting I've only seen 1 deer come in to a scent. All the other years I believe I threw away $$. So now I don't use any. I've just always used them since I started hunting 8 or 9 years ago. I use fitzgerald deer dander on my boots and doe and buck urine around me where I am sitting. While I do know nothing will completely cover human scent I suppose it's me trying to give the illusion that there are deer in the area hoping it will make deer more comfortable and apt to pass through where I am sitting. I have on multiple occasions used a scent drag and have seen deer follow my exact path and occasionally have nose to the ground. I also am very certain the best buck I have ever taken checked a mock scrape I made and that morning stopped there to start my scent drag and he circled around upwind of me to check the scent trail I layed down that morning. By no means am I trying to imply they always work but I do believe right place right time they can help even if it's just peaking curiosity.

For those of you who use deer scents what are your thoughts on gels vs liquids? Any pro's and con's of one vs the other?

I signed up for the IPLA draw hunt. There is only 1 property in my county participating. I'm really hoping to get drawn and see how this works.

Dead silent here for a little while now. Early on it sounded like the gobbles were moving away from where I'm at. Can't decide if I want to hang tight and see what happens in this field or make a move towards the earlier gobbling.

Just had a nice 15 minute conversation with a hen directlyin front of me. I tried to convince her to stay and wait for the fellas but apparently she has other plans lol.

Back in the saddle again! They're gobbling this morning! Single hen decoy sitting on a field. Let's get it!

I put my mouth call on silent for a bit lol Not that you need any advice. Lol. You are a predator game slayer bro! Your winning percentage is better than most for the years you have invested. I envy your enthusiasm! I greatly appreciate such a compliment! I got a late start in the game and always put forth my best effort to learn and execute. I'm also very competitive even if I'm only competing with myself and this wildlife we all love to chase. Thank you again that means alot coming from a seasoned vet such as yourself!

I heard some yelping and clucking as well so I called back just slightly harder than what I heard. I got a few gobbles in response but dead silent now. Stop calling if they stop answering. They will be looking for ya. I put my mouth call on silent for a bit lol

Was nice to hear some gobbling this morning but it got quiet quick. Gonna sit in this spot for a while and head towards some fields just before the potential rain is suppose to begin. Same, no talkie talkie off the roost here either. I heard some yelping and clucking as well so I called back just slightly harder than what I heard. I got a few gobbles in response but dead silent now.

Public land is only open until noon so I'm on my 3rd and final setup for the day. Besides the hen earlier it's been extremely quiet. I did see a bird sneak into some woods near where I am now but couldn't tell if it was a hen or Tom. If I'm in tomorrow I'll try the spot I got my bird at last year.

Experiment. On the youth hunt I put 2 hen decoys out for my nephew. The bird he killed had a bigger bird with a smaller beard with him. They both tried to mount the decoys, the bigger bodies Tom kept running off my nephew’s bird, which he eventually shot. Yesterday I put the hen decoys out again for me. The same big bodied Tom came back but was wary of my decoys only getting within 65 yds but stayed out for over 2 hours. Last night I took my son out and we decided to change things up. I took the hen decoy that looks like she’s looking around and instead of using the spike to put her in the ground I laid her straight in the ground and put a few pieces of wood around her bottom of her body to keep her upright. I then took my jake decoy and stuck it directly behind her looking like he’s practically standing on her. When my sons bird saw that last night just a few yelps and he came running. My sons first shot was probably 3 yds and he missed because the pattern was so tight. Second shot was probably 27ish yds and connected. So I say experiment around. Never use more than one jake decoy and make them look real. Like the thing I did above. If I was in your position I’d do what I did for my son last night. As a matter of fact today I’m out and I never did put my dekes out as I don’t want to over use them. Good idea. Just did this. Same here it's worth a shot!

2nd setup started with no decoys. Called a hen in and talked to her for a few and was hoping something would follow her but nothing else. Put the dekes up after she left. Gonna sit tight for a bit and see what happens. I've had toms on cam in this spot around 9:45 central time.

Thankfully I got in today. Been in my current spot since 5:30am and it has been very quiet. I'm going to get up and move to another spot and glass some fields on my way. There is a small wood line between the path and the fields allowing me to set up if there are birds in the fields. Fingers crossed and hoping to get lucky! Good luck. Fingers crossed for you bud. Thank you good sir it's much appreciated!!!
