I wouldn’t mind if they added a lottery system for non residents as well. Exemption on the lottery for land owners.

Bought mine in 2000 both hunt and fish. Just graduated high school and got my first credit card to work on getting credit established. Had a $1,250.00 limit and that’s exactly what the license cost.
First purchase and maxed out 🤦🏻♂️
Best move ever though

Took this as I was picking up sticks this weekend. Made me stop and just stare at it for a while. Thought about all the blessings in my life.

I’m not much for doing it with the high-end gloves later on, but you can always have them steam it as well. Will definitely help them grip the ball with their small hands.

Probably shame on me for not doing it last year but did do plot start last year as well as aggressively went after the weeds prior to planting.
After getting good growth I did some plot boost and mowed it high to try and keep any weed growth down.
For year one I was happy with the growth

Frost seeded the food plot with more clover/chicory mix. Cut more cottonwoods in another bedding area build. Just started hinge cutting a little bit as well.
Planning on building a couple blind platforms as well. Got the areas laid out. Will probably order material in a week or so.
Neighbor asked me about using the old garden area. We’re going to just work together and make it happen. Probably a 30’x30’ area. He pulled the posts and fence. Then used his machine to pull the smaller trees. I tilled it up real good. Now he’s getting the posts and fencing back.
Lastly took some soil samples and will send those off tomorrow.

It is funny how I got tested and have been locked in my office like I’m condemned meanwhile another coworker had similar but didn’t get tested and he’s been walking around all over the place. 🤔

I unfortunately got Covid last week Wednesday. I was able to head straight down to the river house and quarantine. It took a lot out of me but was able to grade the driveway with the tractor and do some stick pickup. Also took a ride on the 4 wheeler to see how the plot faired and checked out areas for more tree cutting. Felt good to get some fresh air.
Now back at work but still feel congested. Hopefully that will continue to get better.

Filled mine out last week. Definitely hit the cell cam thing and drone recovery thing pretty hard.

The four ponds on my property are back in the woods so they get shaded pretty good. Maybe a little slower evaporation rate 🤔. Seems like they hold water pretty well just from the almost one year I’ve had the place. Did notice they lost a little bit though.. Go to your local bait shop and buy a dozen fathead minnows for each pond. Put them in there and they will feed on the midge larvae. They should survive the winter as long as there's water in the pond and it doesn't get too much snow cover on the ice if it freezes 100%. You could put them in there now. Ideally you want to make sure the water temp is within 5°F of each other. i.e. minnow transport water and pond water. If it's not, you can change water temp by a max of 5°F every 30 minutes. A simple swimming pool thermometer or a corded indoor/outdoor thermometer works great. Sounds like it’s definitely worth trying. Maybe they’ll eat up some of the mosquitoes too?

Old livestock pond I had cleaned out this past summer. Was an EHD pit, now holds 8' water and a good water source for wildlife. will the pond as we go through drought periods and it dries and cracks not hold the midge flies regardless of depth? I’m genuinely asking because I have 4 such areas on my place that I’ve thought about filling in. All can hold around 5-6’ of water. I did think that maybe a less gradual shelf to the bottom may help as well. Thoughts?

41 for me. Been hunting and fishing for as long as I can remember. Did get my first Ben Pearson youth compound at 12 and single shot 20 gauge around that same time. Grew up hunting Jasper Pulaski mostly with a good amount of Kingsbury mixed in too. Ducks from the slough and Kankakee.

Great plan sounds like. I’ve continued to cut larger cottonwood trees on my place. Water is up from the river so can’t easily access everywhere for about a month. Hopefully begin selective harvesting after that. Hopefully get some real good bedding established.. depending on how the logging goes I may add another food plot but will definitely open up the existing plots to maximize mmtheir potential.

It seems several of you on here use the tactacams but, do any of you use the solar panels? I'm curious if they're cost/time effective or not. Thank you. Also, if you don't mind sharing, what is the monthly cost for cell service per camera? Thanks again. I ran 24 tactacams during the season this year amongst a few different properties. I think they’re $10-$11 a month each. The majority of them have the tactacam solar packs and they’ve faired well and I would vote to be worth it. My biggest issue so far is the cord from a to b coming out just enough to keep the solar pack from being used. I wish they screwed in somehow. A zip tie has helped keep I in place a bit better. I would also add that I’d especially use them for heavy traffic areas such as a food plot or a waterhole or hard to get too don’t want to go there areas. Wish they were a bit cheaper to run and I’d run them all through the year. Now I’ve moved some around to still do some trespasser patrol.
