Bear number 3 made his appearance this evening. Was watching the other two out the window, seen them both stand up and wind something then bolt off. Figured there was a bigger one around.

Yes, I have a first aid kit made for dogs that I keep in the truck. With this dry summer we got into more ground hornets than in the last 8-10 years combined. Ditto on the first aid kit. I'd carry it anytime I was training or hunting. What do you do for the dogs when they run into the hornets? Benadryl

Budd, do you carry a tube of Nutri-Cal or Nutri-Stat with you as well? We did whenever we were training or Field Trialing the Springer Spaniels. One of the cheapest tie out stakes that will hold a big hound is a chain connected to a 4" ring around an old straight axle driven into the ground. Used to be able to get those axles free at any mechanic's shop. I knew a bulldog breeder with close to 80 dogs on his yard, exactly what he used.

Being someone that now trains retrievers for a living, I always keep a gallon of alcohol in the truck in case a dog starts to heat stroke. Pour it on their chest area. I always try to get my land work done early while it's cool out, switch to water during the heat of the day. Surface water can get VERY warm and can overheat a dog as well.

Where did you get the salmon from? I train dogs for a retired warden, he brings it back from his Alaska trip every spring.

Mowed off the sweet corn stalks, ran the disc over it a few times and planted winter rye yesterday. Finally got a nice rain last night, should really make that rye pop. Do you add any nitrogen to your rye? I put mine in Tuesday, not sure if it will be required or not. How is your rye doing? Mine is up about 3 inches.

But Boo Boo isn't very big is he? He will need to eat a LOT of groceries. Maybe 100 dressed and that’s pushing it. We don’t have any tags left, just feeding them now.

Had my brother run back and feed while I was out training dogs. Looks like BooBoo is already figuring out our pattern.

My brother had some extra bait after him and his son harvested their bear. I put a barrel behind the house two days ago, this guy showed up yesterday. I can watch him from the house window, should have enough food to get him to denning season.
