Got drawn for the first hunt at big oaks. Anyone need a place to hunt and want to go? I put in for the hunt to take someone that has no other place to go. I can call if you are a new hunter or just tag along.

I’ve never met Span870 but I did get to break bread and socialize with his dad a couple times at an H-I get together. If he is anything like his dad then he is a good man. Yeah but he was a goose killing mo-cheen. His boy...used to let dogs chase rabbits. He used to hunt big deers, he claims to be a decent turkey hunter. One thing he isn't is a goose Killen What you forget is I got the man into goose hunting. I piled them up long before he ever thought of it. And I'll agree in the end the geese got a pass but I stacked the ducks. Geese are the special Ed birds of waterfowl hunting.

Got down to the property on Monday. Knew immediately I was screwed. Hunted it to 2 days. Not a single bird, track, feather, or gobble. After looking at the pictures the guy sent me I realized they weren't from the property. Pictures showed a cut crop field and the property was a pine plantation. Called the guy on it but we swore that he sees birds all the time. Yeah okay.
Decided to try the national forest down there. 2 more days of hunting and not a bird to be heard or single track. Decided to change areas and driving down a forest road what I thought was a simple puddle turned into a 3 foot deep hole. Sank the drivers side front down to frame. After a 4 mile walk out finally found a local store and called a tow truck. $450 to get pulled out. Had one last thought of trying. Moved to another area of the forest and fish and wildlife Decided that opening week of turkey was a great time to decide to burn the whole forest down with prescribed burns. Turned the truck north and headed home.
Moral of the story, when it comes to money or hunting and especially money and hunting, trust no one.

Headed down about noon. Bit of worry just because my last out of state hunt ended in disaster. Still have high hopes of a good outcome. I'll keep everyone posted.

The inlet line to our water heater blew out of the elbow tonight. Luckily I was in the next room and got it shut off in a few seconds. I was able to wiggle the pex clamp down and put a hose clamp on it. It's holding for now. On top of that, my main shut off valve handle broke off and the water heater valve handle stripped. Should I replace it with the same style clamp or go with something like a shark bite elbow? You close to lawrence county? Got everything you need to fix that

Does anyone camp out in a tent anymore? Looking for suggestions for a cot. Xtra size. Car camping so weight don't matter. I'll be able to drive to sight. Bought the tent and way bigger than needed. Plenty to fit any cot. I want to be comfy. I've read plenty of reviews but want real life reviews.

wSpan....I should qualify my post - LOL Initially I received 2 emails, 1 stating an account would already be set up because I had preference points and another saying I needed to create an account because I didn't have preference points. Was pretty sure I didn't so I got the account set up. If I remember right, the first email I got about the new web design said since we would be the test rats....no fee would be charged this year. I have not entered the lottery yet since 4-5 of us enter as a "group". As I understand the process this way if one of the group gets drawn, we all do. Got you. I read separate article saying there was a fee. I banged my head against the wall trying to get someone to take my money. Lol. Either way, I think I entered both for kentucky and Tennessee sides. We'll see. Not sure I need another state this year but I'll take it

Land Between the Lakes has a new web designer.....surprisingly it was a pretty easy procedure to get an account created. My cynical nature had me dreading it - LOL Glad it was for you because it had me banging my head against the wall. I entered the draw, I think. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't there a $5 fee for signing up for the draw? I applied but for the life of me I can't figure out how to pay. The video does me no help. It shows and got an email saying I'm in for the draw but I haven't payed anything

Ok. So ordered the meal at work today. Got the 3 piece. Price, idk. I do know that it was way more food than I needed. It's not cod but wasn't bad. I've had walleye from Canada. It's not that but I wasn't disappointed. I do know I got everyone at work eating it. Every day... what you guys want to eat? Walleye. Unfortunately I had an argument with a coworker the last couple of days. He's tried to convince me that tilapia is way better than salmon so...besides all that. Everyone knows at work that if lunch suggestions come up... well I'm picking culvers

Just talked to the lease owner today. Seems they can't get anyone to hunt turkeys down there. No one interested. Actually sent me texts of guys on the leases complaining about the turkeys eating the corn out of the feeders. Sent me pics of some nice toms. Also told me if I wanted to kill some hogs, have at it. So it should be a good time. Also told me instead of $700, he'll drop it down to $625 for the season. It should be a good time.

So far it's florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and possibly Alabama this year. I'll keep in touch. Maybe we can put something together. No KY? Try some Eastern Ky them guys earn them birds in the hills…Two birds one per day. I've done kentucky before. After hunting pennsylvania and Georgia public land birds, everything else seems a cake walk. You kill consistently on public in those 2 states, you're doing something right

They want us to stop the bill?? LOL Down here in SW Indiana we have a lot of bobcats, almost as many as coyotes. The squirrels have taking a large hit & I would bet the rabbit & turkeys have been hit hard too. I don't know because I don't hunt those. Let the hunting begin is what I say. No where near as many bobcats as you do coyotes. Not even close. Plenty of rabbits and turkeys in southern indiana. I hunt lawrence and orange. Definitely not a loss of squirrel either. It's not the cats. It's the habitat and as far as turkeys, look to nest robbing predators and habitat

Bobcats are a interesting critter. In 23 years living in Switz.Co, I have seen 1 while hunting, and only have 2 trail cam pics, yet know hunters 10 miles away that see them weekly. Home ranges are said to be 5 Sq miles for females, and up to 25 Sq miles or larger for males. No doubt my pics were of males seeking females during breeding season. Like Greg I do not see a hunting seasons coming , but more likely a trapping season, and suspect it will be limited in first few years. Just my feeling from conversations with DNR employees. If the bobcats are anything like Feral Cats, there are WAY more than you think. I saw 1 feral cat occasionally at my place. Then I hopped on the 4 wheeler in the spring and the chrome rim was rusted by a cat whizzing on it. Enough I said, and set a live trap. That year I caught 31 (29 toms, 2 females). The next year I caught 13 (11 Toms, 2 females) and this year I have caught 1 female. I am seeing more rabbits and turkeys, and the mouse problem hasn't changed one bit. They are not. Feral cats kill to kill, bobcats to eat. I encourage anyone that thinks bobcats are decimating any population of animals especially deer or turkeys to actually read studies done by states with high concentration of bobcats and especially high concentration of bobcats and coyotes. See how their diet changes when coyotes are present. State of Georgia is a good one. States with huge bobcat numbers and prolific seasons so they aren't doing studies to stop hunting. Not what my brothers cousin neighbors sister said. Not what I knows is happening. People want to kill them, knock yourself out but its not going to do a tiny bit of difference on bringing back whatever animal that you think the bobcat is killing. I'll take science over guessing.
