Well that's what my hold up is. I have a shock system for training my beagles. I've heard a lot of good things from the alpha and a lot of guys I've talked to said they regret getting the astros. Main thing is it's a little under twice as much. I was looking for something cheap to get started and if everything works out with the dog then I'll invest in a lot better system. Hope that makes sense.

Just curious if anyone has a used garmin tracking system they aren't using anymore. I currently acquired a squirrel dog and wanted to make sure where she was at all times. LOL Been a rabbit hunter most of my life so this is new to me.
Woody- If this isn't allowed here and should be in classifieds just let me know. Just thought I would start in the small game group first. Thanks

I've had rabbit dogs for several years and sold out about 2 years ago due to the kiddos being involved in every sport there is(Wouldn't change it for anything). A buddy of mine has been on me about getting a Mountain Cur to just pleasure hunt with him and his dogs so I thought I would check into it. I've been looking around for a dog for sale but the prices are way more than what I'm wanting to give for a hunting dog right now. I'm just looking for a dog that when the tail gate drops there will be meat. Nothing fancy. The question I have for the squirrel dog folks is a lot dogs im finding are lightly started around 800-1200 dollars. Is this accurate? Thanks for any info.

If any of you guys film your hunts what kind of set-ups are you using. Trying to use a low budget to start filming my kids but don't want to overload it. Would like HD but I have noticed that the microphones keep wind noise down and so forth. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks

Sorry woody. Didn't mean to stray just like jjas point. The people I hunt with and around didn't take up crossbows as of yet. I think it'll be just up a tad from last year.

Well said jjas. Me and a buddy of mine were talking anout this same subject the other day at work. We both agreed that the weapon you choose is only a personel prefernce. If you sit in the woods under any weather conditions, put your time into scouting then weapons don't matter. The most vaulable thing about hunting to me is spending time with family and friends. If they want to use a crossbow that's fine with me as long as everybody enjoys the time in the field. As far as record books go, its nice seein your name in the book but the true trophy is holding your harvest in the field no matter how big or small or what weapon you took it with and the memories that come from it. Happy huntin to all!

A debate like this could go on forever. Ive never killed a monster buck but would i like to? Who wouldnt. I get more enjoyment out of my kids checkin cameras with me and eatin loins and steaks over an open fire with the family friends. We use hunting as a family and friend bond and a day in the treestand is 10x better than any day at work even if i dont see one deer. The whole scent debate is so wide spread. Just like food plots. If i take a tractor in and plant a food plot will the deer not eat it cause of the human and tractor traffic? Do i need to put non scent gloves on before i disperse the seed? If you spook a big deer on his home territory he is gonna run off but he is still there somewhere. Just like if you travel to a treestand or ground blind the same way year after year he is gonna catch on. Scent is always a debate thats gonna be there. If i really wanted to kill a monster buck i would just save up my money and go out west to a ranch and just shoot one. Sorry so long. Happy Hunting to everyone. Come on Oct.1
