Was in the Bass Pro in Clarksville yesterday and saw Tony Stewart shopping. My Son was with me so I got an autograph for him. He complained of it being his day off and people asking for autographs. Maybe he was still upset about his crash on Sunday.
Is he an outdoorsman?

Don't know about his outdoors experiences, but he seems to be a very experienced complainer.

I think "COMPLAIN" is his middle name. My 2 cents worth!

I remember being in the infield of the Winchester Speedway on a Saterday afternoon when the sprint car trailers were being unloaded and watching drivers like Tony Stewert and Jeff Gordon getting their cars prept for that night's racing. This was before they got involved in NASCAR, but boy, they had some good looking girls hanging around them. We were there taking part in the "Winchester Old Timer's" event.

Why bother to become famous if you hate the spotlight ?

Hey catdaddy, I wouldn't call anybody a pansie who can race nine or nineteen other guys in sprint cars around a track like the Winchester nightmare and turn 16 second laps. I'd venture to say without looking it up that there are a lot more guys killed in open-wheel race cars than in ARCA or NASCAR.

Very well said tutsi Stewart is the best freaking racer in a long long time probably the best since foyt in his glory days. Tony is in Nascar to race and that is the only reason, trust me if he didnt have sponsors to impress he would not be seen anywhere he just wants to be normal IF YOU SEE HIM IN PUBLIC LEAVE HIM ALONE.

I would love to see Tony get back into open wheel racing, I think he could really help bring back the appeal of the IRL / Champ cars IF the two series ever unite. He's an arse at times, but dang that guy can drive.....and I'm not even what you would call a Stewart fan. I just admirer driving talent...and that's what he's paid to do.

Which sponsers is he impressing? I'm sure Home Depot grins from ear to ear when they hear his mouth spatting, and blaming everyone around him. I'm also sure that Home Depot wants 50% or more of the fans to hate him. Sure the man can drive a car, but so could Dale Jarrett in his prime, and i'm sure UPS gets more positive feed backs than Home Depot does today. Racing is not just a sport, but a big time business. And unlike any other sport, you have to have the fans on your side for they/we are the ones that support the businesses that puts the cars on the track each weekend. Lug

NASCAR race....isn't that the ones where they go around in a circle and turn left ? BORING !!!
Had to get in a jab ! I just have better things to do than watch cars go around in a circle on a sunday afternoon.
A bunch of guys that work for me are into it. One morning they were all spitin and woofin about some race. I sat there for a while listening and finally said hey did you guys watch the 60 minutes piece a couple of weeks ago about Nascar ? Of course I was making it all up so no one had seen it. I said it was pretty interesting, they were talking about how nascar is just like pro wrestling...the teams buy the races through a bid process and they know whos going to win months before the race. LMAO you should have heard those guys come unglued !!!!

I have great respect for Tony's talent at the sport. I also respected A.J.'s talent and Bobby Knight's ability to coach basketball.
However, I don't see their unquestionable talents as relieving them of the responsibility to be ambassadors for their sport. The sports "bad boys" and their temper tantrums hurt the entire sport, not just their own part in it. Tony, A.J., Bobby, Dennis Rodman, etc., all cashed the checks, and I doubt that the responsibility to the sport was a surprise to any of them. They just choose to ignore it and enjoy the benefits of their fame without taking up the behavioral repsonsibilities that go along with it. Can't respect their attitudes.

Russ I agree with ya about trying to be ambassadors of the sport.....except when it comes to NASCAR. Temper tantrums, fights, etc are uncalled for 99% of the time but for NASCAR it just works! People don't go to the races to see the wrecks, they come to see fenders rubbing and then the pushing and shoving afterwards. That's the way the sport has been for 50 years, why try to change it into something that resembles F-1? NASCAR will dump in popularity if the France family ever tries to tighten the reins on their drivers. They have a pretty good handle on things, allowing SOME ill-tempers, but still coming down hard on teams when warranted. Indy car had AJ's temper when he still drove, and look how popular that was! They should take a page from NASCAR's play book and get some drivers in there with some spunk to get the fans excited again. You think Danica is popular now? Let her b*tch slap Marco Andretti and see how her popularity sky rockets! I say, let Kenseth spin Tony out, and then let Tony go smack him upside the head afterwards......it just makes for good TV! :-)
