I haven't seen this one on here so if it's a repeat sorry. Anyway I'm trying to figure out what kind of a shot would cause this kind of bleeding. It's not spurting like an artery hit of some kind; at least not so I can tell - it kind of hard to see right after the shot so maybe it is at first [warning there is quite a bit of blood in this clip] so I'm curious what was hit here? Not a bad buck either. home.comcast.net/~scottd41069/SHOT.wmv

Looks like he might have took out the heart and all of the associated plumbing connected to it?

I considered something along those lines but what ever the hunter had would have had to cause rather massive damage.

a few years ago i shot a 180 lbs 10 pter with my savage 10 ml at 40 yds with a 180 grn red hot going over 2600 fps. he was broadside and i shot him just behind the shoulder blade. he walked about 20 yds and stopped with his backside toward me. i saw blood pouring out the exit hole about the size of a dime just like on that movie. he stood there a few seconds and walked another ten yards and fell over.
i think in the movie the shot took out the lung and the left side of the heart. blood from both flowing out the hole. h.h.

Looks to be a very large exit hole to me. I would have to consider that as overkill!

Heart shot, lung, blew the heart apart. Have shot two with 300gr hpxtp in 452 being pushed by 150 pyrodex pellets. They only walk about 10 to 15 yrds then fall down.

OK THX; my only experience has been with plain old slugs; never had results like that. I have a Savage in '06 I've been wanting to harvest one with - Kentucky is looking good this year. Hornhunter, I had been planning on using 150gr bullets; that's all I have fired so far but a friend of mine said his rifle likes 180gr flat base bullets so I have loaded some but have not had a chance to shoot them yet. What have you found with your Savage?

I agree with Woody. The heart chamber was completely destroyed with a large caliber round of excellent mushrooming qualities.

What have you found with your Savage? dbd870, the 10 ml is a .50 smokeless muzzleloader. most people use .452 250 or 300 grain bullets in a plastic sabot, i was using 180 red hot in a method called double sabot loading. it sounds like your savage is a center fire. in that case either 150 or 180 will do the job on whitetail. it usually depends on what barrel twist you have to what bullet shoots best at a certain velocity. what caliber is your gun? h.h.

From my observation (which I could only view once), it appears the "accending aorta" was compromised at mid-level, explaning the amount of blood exiting the wound.

Looks like a larger caliber, slow travelling bullet with a soft point at close range... .308 maybe?

Looks like a larger caliber, slow travelling bullet with a soft point at close range... .308 maybe? Could have been a .308 loaded with a light weight expanding bullet. Or it could have been a .270 or one of those newer "Short Fat" type cartridges of .30 caliber.

Sound "Hoosier" enough now? ;D

I shot a doe last year at about 12 yards with my muzzleloader and blood gushed out just like that. Maybe not quite that much but it come out like a hose.
