Due to a trespass issue on a property I hunt the owner wants to put up a cellular trail cam at the front gate. He wants the best, clearest cam that money can buy and hang the cost. He also asked if I knew what the monthly plan would cost.
There is no electricity at the front gate where the cam would go, so it's going to be battery operated with a solar panel and high up in a tree to prevent it from easily getting stolen.
I have no idea on either. What are his options?

I have Moultrie. App on my phone gets all the images sent straight to it and if you just want pictures, you can get unlimited pictures for around $10 a month I believe. They sell a solar panel kit for it too.

I like my tacticams. Although not as clear as I’d prefer they get sent to your phone within a minute. Also you can have them send an HD pic too.

Spartan and Reconyx are supposed to be the elite cameras.

Reconyx seems to be rated #1 each year.

I have a couple tactacams and like them, but if you’re looking to get clear pics to possibly identify someone driving/walking up I’d go with a different brand as the pics aren’t super clear.

I agree but they have a HD option that makes them clearer Before you decide on what cell camera you want I see what cell service is best in the area…..the market is big with cell type cameras!

I run recoynx and exodus. Both have 5yr warranty. I think by far recoynx is the best out there I hardly ever have to upload a hd photo on the app they are that clear. I have 6 of them running and cost 37.45. Granted if you want on demand option that’s a extra 5

Thanks guys. I talked to the property owner today and he stressed that the purchase price of the camera is no big deal he's more concerned about the monthly fee - in his eyes the monthly fee will add up to WAY more than the purchase price of the camera in a few years since it will be running 12 months of the year.
While the Wiseye tech is nice, it's more humans that he's concerned about.
You guys that are running the cellular cameras, what is your monthly cost and how many cams do you have out?
I forgot to add. I have both Cuddie and Reconyx cameras that use an SD card and the REconyx blows the Cuddie out of the water.

esshup..... I have 5 tactacams cells and I am pleased with the service of them. I use 3 of them on farms for hunting and I use 2 of them for surveillance. 1 of them is at our camp ground down in Patriot In. no problem with reception. The other we use here at the house for surveillance. 4 of them I use with solar panels, 3 are tacta cam panels and 1 is an off brand panel. I have had no issues with the panels, and they all are out all year . My service runs 5$ per camera for 500 pics ea for a month, 2 cameras share the 500 pics. I have paid an additional 5$ for HD pics (50) on the shared cams. I think the unlimited pkg is around 13$ I hope this will help in his decision.

I have the tactacams too. I do the monthly. Last year I did yearly but I like to shut some of them off after season. I did just get the stuff to do the external battery for 2 of them.

Wise Eyes, great pictures. They have GPS positioning so if a trespasser steals it you can track it down

I personally won't step into the cell cams, BUT trespassing issues for me too have me considering it solely for that purpose and not deer intel.
If I did it would either be Reconyx or WiseEye
WiseEye would likely get my money only because I've been blessed to witness and hear how incredible the family (Monk family) that runs it is and the committment they have for incredible service when needed. You won't speak to any CS third party, you often times will get set up with one of the founders themselves or family.
CS isn't needed much for them, but when you do need it for any reason WiseEye QUICKLY becomes the best I hear from multiple sources I would trust to watch my son.

Before this year I would have recommended Tactacams. However, mine have been dropping like flies. I had two Tactacams that I purchased new in January 2022 that died this year, first one in July and the second one in October. Sent the first one back for repair since the batteries were running out after 3 weeks and around 250 pics. Tactacam said it failed their battery consumption tests and they were not able to repair it. Since it was 18 months old they basically told me to pound salt since they only carry a 1 year warranty. I didn't bother sending the second one in since it is doing the exact thing the first one was doing. Now I have two $125 paperweights less than 2 years old. Good luck in your search, I'll be searching for a company that produces a better product and takes care of customers.

I have had a single Spartan Go Cam for about 3 seasons now. I elevate it out of reach and angle it slightly down but I think that effects the image quality. I can request a HD photo but that only comes next time the camera sends another photo to my phone. The HD photos are much better but there is still resolution issues sometimes. It’s an older models so perhaps they’ve improved.
The cost is $7 a month through Verizon for service and Spartan also has monthly operational fee called “premium credits” so it works out to $10/month.
I have no experience with other cams but was told that Spartan are expensive. But they do appear to be s good product as I’ve had mine running full time for 3 years without any issue. I have set mine to photo mode and I get about 11 months out of a set of 12 lithium batteries.
FYI -Spartan has some Black Friday deals right now.

I use Bushnell with a Verizon service at $10/month for 2000 photos. Use high quality lithium batteries and they last forever. I have one still going strong from turkey season and it’s taken thousands of photos
