Easy guys...
I don't know the first thing about hunting hogs with dogs but let's do keep it a civil discussion OK?
Thanks..

I pulled this off the SCOutdooradventures.com site Hope it works: www.huntingfootage.com/data/513/Mer...try_Boy_Net.wmvI've never hunted hogs with dogs either but have had several conversations with some of the guys on that site that hunt and trap them. Nobody had any bad thing to say about this video so I'm assuming that it's fairly representative of how the dogs are used. Hope this either clears the air or at least puts the discussion back on level ground. There some other videos over there that I've seen that I can try and find also if you want me to.

Whoa! Your telling me they was breaking the dog off by a child pulling on a lead,a grown man punching the dog and another grown man sticking his hands in the mouth of the dog. Either your stretching the truth or them guys are plain stupid! That is about the dumbest way to break a dog off a pig I EVER heard. I don`t care who your are if thats how you break a dog you shouldn`t have a dog. this was the catch dogs first hunt back after getting the 26 stitches out from that big boar. The owner told me that is not his normal behavior, that he normally breaks with a leash tug and command but he was fired up that night. He let him loose on the sow twice more after she was dead to work with him to break right.Their style of hogdoggin is pulling the catch dog off while 1 guy holds the hogs legs and the sticker moves in to take out the heart/lungs.If the stickman messes up or hesitates then he is gonna need some stiches

Well, fellas I guess I gotta applogize for being quick on the judgement and having a one sided view of hog hunting. There is a lot of difference in hunting in Texas versus hunting in the Appalachian Mtns. no matter what you are hunting. We ran mostly single hogs and sometimes for not just hours but days. Sometimes those big Russians would cross into N. Carolina and we would be lucky to get the dogs back by the next weekend. A lot of the hogs were killed by stand hunters as they crossed hog backs, saddles or logging roads. If we can get past the rhetoric it will be interesting to see what type of hunting style works best on Indiana hogs. So bear with me and I'll be a patient hunter.

I haven't seen any or any hog sign around my area in about 5 years.
I'm guessing there are still some back in the pits.

If somebody down that way has some leads on where to go I'm sure that Danf and myself wouldn't mind some stillhunting for them if we just knew where to start and who to get a hold of for permission. Would love to put the hurt on coyotes and maybe even see what else may sound like bacon doing a dirt nap ;D Have been around the Tunnelton-Buddha-Bedford area a few times with Scouts on caving trips so I'm not unfamiliar with that area.

I have a cousin in the tunnelton area that has the hogs on his land but he won't allow anyone to hunt it. I have not been able to find any of the land owners down there that will allow you to hunt them on their property. I think the best chance would be to run an add in the local newspaper (Times Mail) looking for someone to let you hunt these hogs on their property. We have 30 acres about 10 minutes from the tunnelton/Buddha area so hopefully one day they will migrate my way and when they do I will surley invite some of you down for a hunt. My dad just bought some more land in Tunnelton and closed on it last Friday so hopefully we will find some sign on it.

Thanks Harley! I've even got a friend of a friend(we've both done some rock climbing and caving together) that lives, works and grew up in that area, and even he is having a hard time trying to find anyplace that supposedly has any hogs or access to them. Must be some pretty tight folks down there...

i'm not to familiar with the area, being's i'm from harrison county and now live in charlestown.but my dad live's in salem and landed some good hunting ground in the bono area.i'm pretty sure that is around tunnleton and fort ritner.anyway this year i was tracking a deer and came acroos a dead hog in a swampy area next to the white river.thought all the track's i seen in there were deer but after closer exam they appeared to be hog tracks.haven't got to see one on hoof yet,but i hunt the high ridge's and cliff's so prolly wouldn't see them anyway.i wish it wasn't so far to drive,i am limited to just weekend hunting.one thing is for sure that area is loaded and i mean loaded with a capitol L with deer.i seen deer every outing last year and thought maybe no one hunted the area.this year even with all the disease scare's i seen more deer than last.

Catdaddy-is that Charlestown IN? Give me a buzz or PM the next time you think you might over Bono way 'cause I'd like to take a look around if possible. Is the property some that you(or your Dad) have permission to hunt or does belong in the family. Can't say as I would want to do any deer hunting, got enough of 'em around here, but would definitely be looking for some hoghunting ground if it's feasible. It would be a three hour drive for me but that's a lot closer than the place in SC we went to this spring(12 hour drive). Plus I might even have someplace close to stay if needed. Thanks!!

If you got hogs in an area then put up a corn feeder and they will find it. You can hang a 55 gallon barrel on a pulley and put 5 bags of corn in and set the timer for 1/2 before day lite and dark and throw 5 seconds of corn and it will last close to a month. Deer, hogs and anything that eats corn will come. Once there on the feeder then setup a stand for bow hunting. Hogs aren't a game animal in Indiana so there is no violations in using a feeder and the feeder will draw them in, especially this time of the year. h.h.

Sounds like a plan. I'm gonna be up in Kalamazoo skiing with my Scout tomorrow but will be back Sunday. I don't have a feeder but have seen several ways of doing a feeder with just staked down plastic barrels-probably just as effective and a lot cheaper if someone has access to the barrels. Also heard of mixing up some sour corn mash and digging a hole to put in but I'm sure that there many different ways of baiting them in. Thanks again!!

Also FYI~ there is 1400 AC going on the aution block on Jan 30... some of which I am pretty sure have hogs on it....

No feeding-no problem-at least for the first couple of hogs and then they will get smart(er). Keep me posted on if the land is available. If the landowner wants a face-to-face that's fine and very understandable. I would much rather be hunting on somebody's land that I have a personal handshake from. Don't be afraid to PM me if you need to.
