Yes, at least I believe so. At the time it was a HUGE one upmanship game between the USA and Russia and while we didn't get the first person in space, we landed on the moon first. Maybe Woody can explain the political climate at that time better, I wasn't very old then. Then there's this:

I do not know about this. I have a hard time deciding what I am going to fix for supper each night. 10,000 years out? No way. So I goggled what happened 10,000 years ago. "What major events happened 10,000 years ago? 10,000 years ago (8,000 BC): The Quaternary extinction event, which has been ongoing since the mid-Pleistocene, concludes. Many of the ice age megafauna go extinct, including the megatherium, woolly rhinoceros, Irish elk, cave bear, cave lion, and the last of the sabre-toothed cats."I think the few people back then were running around wondering why that B&C Irish Elk did not show up on their cams. Course the DNR mismanagement got blamed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_prehistory#External_linksI doubt there was much thought as to shaping the world and civillation's to be where they are today.

I remember it well... EHD and CWD wiped them all out. Made vegetarians out of us hunters.
