So, on the county income tax, is it just for income earned within the county, or income from anywhere, such as a pension?

So, on the county income tax, is it just for income earned within the county, or income from anywhere, such as a pension? If a person resides in an Indiana county on January 1, or resides out-of-state on January 1, but has his or her principal place of work or business in an Indiana county as of January 1, he or she is subject to county tax at the rate corresponding to that Indiana county. www.in.gov/dor/files/dn01.pdf

If that's the case, then coupled with the sales tax, which we don't have, I'd actually end up paying more in taxes in Indiana than I do in Montana.

If you really think that money don’t come with baggage you’re in for a surprise! IDK if I’d agree with that I don’t think just because it’s legal now tons of people became pot heads Even if we get it passed here I won’t start smoking it and I don’t believe a lot of people that don’t will start. I know a lot of people that do daily they work every day some have high paying jobs have nice homes pay taxes put kids in college IDK I just don’t see pot as a hard core drug that’s going to make go off on a crime spree Ask any hardcore drug user what is the first drug they ever used …. 9 out 10 will say pot is where it starts! Yes people will get it but why make it easier!

Yep, same heard in our area of the NW. Gas went up $.30 yesterday too. Jumped 40 cents on quaint Little Newburgh.. Not sure about E'ville? I still filled up for $3.09 today, clerk said it’s going to $3.39 at noon.

Yes people will get it but why make it easier! I’m sure it was it’s the most common drug or was as far as I know and very easy to get even in IN, Honestly I’d say half the people on here have someone they know that they could get pot from before the sun sets today maybe I hang around the wrong crowd but it’s just not hard to find around here anyway But is everyone that became a Alcoholic because of beer Is everyone that’s overweight because of a Big Mac Everyone started somewhere and it’s going to be with the easiest substance they can find People always want to say well if I didn’t smoke that eat this or that drink that I had it was still a choice they made. Myself I’m all for it people are going to smoke it legal or not let’s make money off it. Theirs a big market for gummy bears and candy around here people run to MI stock up bring it back and sale it, maybe I just see it more being in Fort Wayne all the time it’s the second largest city in IN Same with Sunday beer sales i was all for it I know OH and Mi and I believe KY also made billions on us I live just a few miles from OH 50% of the people at the liquor store had IN plates same way up around the lakes they all crossed over into MI and got booze

So where does it STOP or maybe it doesn’t for some.Everyone has different values in life obviously.
Maybe the legal drinking age should be 18….. we could go on forever!
Everything isn’t about money in my world …. But that’s me!

My complaint is only this it’s going to happen regardless of how you or I fill about it so why don’t we at least get the tax’s off it instead of giving it to another state and try and do good with it new schools safer schools better roads tax incentives to attract new companies helping vets helping the disabled food banks and the list goes on I just believe our state is stupid for not taking advantage of it because regardless of my values your values it’s going to happen

My wife was not able to send me the statements, but we spoke over the phone. Not to the penny, but near the dollar amount, these are some of the details. I live on the southside of Indianapolis (Homecroft). I have lived in this, three-bedroom, limestone ranch for 30 years. Basement, one car garage with attached 2-1/2 car carport. Roughly 1/2 acre lot. Built in 1950. We are the second owners.
Last years assessed value increased from $172K to $198K, up 15.1%. Taxes increased from $2457 to $3030, up 23.3%.
This year’s assessed value increased from $198K to $226K, up 14.1%. Taxes increased from $3030 to $3660, up 20.8%.

Location is key…. You get away from the bigger cities things go down. Homeowners who live in their primary residence in Indiana are eligible for a number of deductions that can push rates down

Yours seem closer to 1.6%

Didn't we have a billion dollar tax surplus and they sent money back to us? Last year.

Realtor here, I deal with this a lot.
In my opinion this is why we are seeing issues.
In many counties (can't speak for all) assessment values were much much lower than actual home values.
The dramatic increase in property values over the last few years caused the assessed values to grow just as fast.
We were spoiled for a very long time.
FYI you can contest the assessed value if you feel it's wrong.

But I also know that that tax statement includes a good portion from Perry Township alone. I’ll have to tap into the detailed statement when I get home.

I realize this is the formula that has been in place for years. I’m just getting sick of the increases.

I've done this and won, I'll admit I pulled on their heartstrings a bit telling them we were a family of four and both had to work to make enough money to afford the house in turn raising the property taxes made it very difficult on our family... it at least gave us a few years of slow increase rather than 1 year of a big increase.
