The buck I'm most proud of is by far not my biggest one. I killed it with an all wood longbow that I made. The arrow was bamboo with turkey feathers and a flint knapped stone arrow head. I hope to be able to do the same one day.

Is it bad that all these years later I still tell people I know that guy... Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to eventually get invited to his honey hole -- all that buttering up and all. Lol! I only met him in person once, so I'm still stuck hunting dinks. Lol!

I notice a theme here, the best deer doesn't always equate to the biggest one, but rather the circumstances around a particular deer. I am no exception. My favorites have to be all the Deer my son took while with me, and a deer my brother took last year. Last season We watched a nice buck for a long time, he missed a shot, and the deer ran a bit and stopped. The 2nd shot was good but we thought it wasn't at first. I will remember seeing that first drop of blood forever. The other was later that season, my friend and I wanted to get my brother a shot, so we set him up in a good spot. He got his shot. Forgive my son's dour expression; I'm afraid he has my smile. He was happy! The field pic is me admiring my brother's deer.

My best deer was my first deer, I was 12 years old and I told my dad I wanted to go hunting. He had an old 20 ga, stephens single shot. Dad took me to a stand and ensured I climbed it and got in safe. He said he would be back at 10am to come get me. About 9:50am I had a herd of 11 deer run up on me and I picked out the biggest one. It was a Button Buck. I was hooked for life. Then fast forward 38 years. Things came full circle, dad was 83 years old and had trouble walking, so I took him to his stand, a ground blind, by way of a kawasaki mule. I ensured he got in safe and told him I would be back to get him. I heard him shoot so I went over to his blind. He said he had shot a deer and it ran over the hill. Like I said, he cannot walk very good so i went to look. Guess what, he shot a Button Buck. I walked back up to dad and told him, Dad do you remember when you took me to my stand and I killed a button buck for my first deer? Well here we are 38 years later and I am taking you to your stand and you killed a button buck. I think we both had tears in our eyes.

Tony, I’ve slept once or twice since then. 😉 I’m not sure where I got those coveralls in Woodland Camo. Most times I wore WWII war surplus camo. Then Trebark. Trebark started the “designer camo” band wagon rolling!
