Saturday, Ive decided to start with... If its dry... 270 Encore rifle blued. If its wet, 7-08 Encore rifle stainless. Various others will be rotated thru the hunts. I once dropped a buck with a 7-08 Encore...pistol! Love that round even though I no longer have the gun. 7mm-08 is my new favorite caliber. It has and does it all. I was big into Encore pistols since 1999. I/we used them for years before PCR and now HPR. I practiced to 400yd, and killed several over 300yd. My favorite was a 17" 260Rem barrel. It was very light recoil, but flat as could be. That was when I hunted all fields, and sighted at +4"/100yd I could hold dead on at 270yd. At 350yd, hold on top of back. The 6.5mm 129sst is a flat flying bullet! I have had about 30 different barrels over the years, but now down to 7 or 8.

I actually may not end up carrying anything opening morning. My daughter might want to hunt the morning and I’ll sit with her in a stand as I’m tagged out on my buck and she isn’t. Later in the evening I may carry my .308

My old faithful 870 12 ga. a rifled barrel topped with a Leopold. Shooting Hornady SST's, that is one accurate setup as far as shotguns go.

Hornaday SST’s shoot like a rifle shell. Extremely accurate at 100 yards with loads of knockdown power. Deer don’t runoff when hit with SST. My 14 year old is using his Remington.243 rifle.

I will be taking my 13 year old daughter and the Savage 350 Legend hoping to get her first deer. This is the second year I have had this gun, but it has never shot anything, fingers crossed!

For me, it just depends on the wind. I can hunt open field with shots out to 450 yds or solid woods with shot less than 25 yds.I typically hunt with .270, 7mm rem mag, 30/30 or 44 mag marlin. If I am on my property 270. If at am at my in laws property 7 rem mag, or my new toy Christensen Arms Mesa Long Range in 6.5 PRC. I thought my 7mag was badass, this round only drops 8 moa @ 500 yds. 6.5 PRC sight in: 200 yds and 400 yds ibb.co/0ZPQ7qK ibb.co/VtCskpt

I really liked the SST out of my Savage 220 shotgun. But, they just didn't perform as well or as consistent out of my Browning X-Bolt.

I really liked the SST out of my Savage 220 shotgun. But, they just didn't perform as well or as consistent out of my Browning X-Bolt. Years ago, I spent big money to test various brands of sabot slugs in the Remington 870 with fully-rifled cantilever barrel that I had at the time. The Hornady SST's were the worst of the lot by far out of my shotgun --something like a 10" group at 100 yards. Remington Buckhammers were the best at right at a 1" group. It seems like I posted a thread here the day of the test, but that was a long time ago (before even PCR's were legal.) As for tomorrow, I'm undecided. It'll either be a Ruger American Predator in .260 Rem or an AAC Handi-rifle in .300 Blackout. Either one I choose will be wearing a suppressor.

Before I got my .308 and 350 Legend, I shot Hornady SST out of my 20 gauge 870 with good results. I haven't seen slugs/sabots hardly anywhere for a while. I don't need any and may never again. Sabots are HORRIBLY expensive.
