Parts of Switzerland County were destroyed by rain today. The Bennington/ Pleasant area was hit bad. We had a hard time finding a route home from Madison that wasn't under water or the road gone. We almost ran out of gas before we made it to Vevay. I heard they got over 8" of rain this afternoon. Not enough cops to block all the roads . They started taping them off. We saw water rescue vehicles flying down the roads. Heard reports of 2 vehicles swept away. My sister was in the same area and got stranded between two spots of high water for over 2 hours. An amish family checked on them and invited them inside for dinner. Parts of Hwy 250 were washed away. I've never seen anything like this before.

It's going to take months for all of the roads to be repaired.

Holy moly! Glad you and yours were ok. Did your sister go to dinner with the Amish family? You wouldn't have to ask me twice!

That would have been a cool experience and a good meal. Several neighbors came and checked on them and had to jump start their car once the water receded.

Water sure is powerful. That’s some crazy damage, but glad you all are okay.

Hwy 250 That looks like pictures I have seen from earthquakes. You are right it will be a long time before the roads are fixed.

What's crazy is that it was mainly in one small area, not the entire county. It's like the Ohio River was dropped in one spot and just destroyed everything in its path. I guess a storm cell opened up and just stayed put.

Is any of that area in the “Flood Plain”….? I'm not sure. It's all low areas with small creeks that got overwhelmed.

Most will not have had flood insurance due to this has never occurred to this extent. This isn’t the ohio river. It’s small tributary’s and creeks running to the river. Lots of of hills and valleys and no where for 9 inches of rain to go.
