Hopefully her story of what happened will get some things changed.

I've heard many tales of gps misdirection from RV owners. I can see this happening very easily in such country. I hope no one blames themselves for something that was a conspiracy of terrible circumstances. This goes to show how important a quick search is. Without the efforts of Travis and all those involved it would have been even worse. Small comfort perhaps. My condolences 😔🙏

Not sure how you can miss a 32 foot trailer and tow vehicle on any flat ground where you can see for miles? Doesn’t seem right?

Actually, according to the Google maps I've seen of the area, they were on the "back side" of a mountain. That doesn't excuse the delay in searching. Honestly, I can see a lawsuit against the Sheriff Office easily winning, and possibly charges against the Sheriff.

I say the Vegas area Sheriff Office gets multi calls a week from folks looking for their parents or love ones that went to Vegas but cant be found that then turn up ok in Vegas. Vegas is not a "normal" world IMO...Lost Wages

Only after Travis kept the pressure up did he finally relent and call for a Silver Alert. It will come out just how they were found and by whom but what I understand it wasn’t anyone in the sheriffs department

When I'm driving and the GPS says to take this road and it's not a paved road I stop, expand the GPS and follow the route it's recommending to see if I should back up or continue. I don't fully trust the thing.
I an orienteering class was part of the ROTC class that I took and we had a final test where we were dropped off at a spot in the winter with snow skiil via helicopter. Our team came in first place and map reading has been part of my live ever since.

Your point about paved roads is a good one, I really enjoy map Reading but so often even with USGS quadrangle Maps there are errors and marked roads that are not really for Highway style vehicles. I've been in a couple of spots where I have really second-guess my decision for being there luckily I got out of that spot but I can see where this situation could very easily happen.

The really bad part was no cell service so they couldn’t call for help! And it appears to be a road hardly used!

When planning to travel in the west, or really any remote area, it is wise to rent a satellite phone. You can rent them very reasonable these days.

Here’s the recovery effort for the vehicles. Been a fan of the diesel brothers for a long time and this is one of the neatest recoveries I’ve watched. Sad story, but glad these guys were able to assist the families. youtu.be/2SvuZ_y75EU
