What are some weird deer activities you've seen in the woods?
This year I seen a button buck leave momma and follow a decent buck around the woods like it was his daddy.
The same button the next day got into a fight with his sister, I'd imagine, and completely tore up the hillside. They went head to head and went at it like two big old rutting bucks. I was on the ground and they were no more than 10 yards at one point and they were making a God awful racket.
Years ago I seen a doe chase a feral cat around a tree for quite awhile. She definitely wasn't playing with it.

I saw a young doe get chased by my stand by 3 bucks. They looked to be 1.5 and 2.5 years old. This big mama doe came charging up the hill after them. It's the biggest doe I've ever seen in the woods. She had a determined look on her face. They went over the top of the ridge and I heard a lot of crashing around. Then the big doe came trotting back down the hill with the young doe in front of her. I'm not sure how she did it but she got that doe back from the 3 bucks that were chasing her. The bucks never came back down the hill.

When I first got into hunting with TC Encore pistols, I wasnt a handloader yet. So I used factory Rem Core Lokts in 30-06. I shot a big doe out of a herd of deer in the field at 165yds. They scattered and she ran over a hill and thru a creek. I waited a few minutes, and a deer came back over the hill running full tilt. It made a semi circle and fell over dead. I thought, wth? Went down to her and she had a pencil hole right thru the lungs. Talk about lucky! We found out factory loaded rounds (for rifle length barrels) was too slow out of our 15" barrels. After that I started loading my own and using faster powders and softer, lighter bullets to get the speed up. I made several quick kills over 300yds after that.

I once had a fawn come bed at the base of my tree. Literally touching the tree. Didn't see any other deer that evening and as it got dark, that deer was STILL beded there. I sat for a while before deciding just to get down even though this thing was laying against my tree. As I climbed down, she stood up and just watched me come down the tree not five steps away. She would not leave. I got to the ground and she came to 3 steps trying to sniff me. She ended up following me out of the woods about 10 feet behind me the whole way and then just watched me walk to my truck through the field. I think her mother had been killed and she was too young to know anything. I did end up seeing that she linked up with another doe who had twins and that doe seemed to take her under her wing for about a month or so.

I can keep this thread going for a long time as things come to mind and I get time to write. Most of mine are memorable about the harvest, but have a few things prior.
Not sure the thread was started with the intent of after harvest info? If not, just stop me any time.
I have a lot of deer hunting under my belt, so I am rich on experiences.

I shot a deer and it ran right back to me and crashed into the tree next to mine at full speed. The shot was over 200yd. There wasnt even a trail near me. It died instantly.

I had a young deer come up to my blind and look in two different windows at me! If the door was unzipped it might have came right in with me. Lol.

I had a group of deer coming towards me. All of a sudden one takes off and runs right at me. The button buck ran past me and cut a circle and headed back to the group. Circled them and came right past me again. On the third lap he stopped near my tree and just stood there panting. The group turned out to be a couple of does and fawns. The little guy went up to join them in a spot where the brush made shooting impossible.

I few years ago I put a stick in the ground that stuck up about 5 inches out of the ground. It was a marker for an oak tree that I was planting. I went to the other side of the house to get the oak tree seedling. I walk back and a doe with two fawns were standing 10 yards to 20 yards from the stick. The doe would not pass the stick. After three hours on trying to go around and jumping back away from the stick one fawn did it. It took them 3 hours to move 10 yards. One marker stick stopped them in their tracks. I had gloves on so scent had to be minimal.

I mentioned this before but I had hand to antler combat with a buck. Hunting about 25 years ago a buddy and I were bow hunting in October. My buddy stuck a 5 or 7 point don’t remember, but hit it to far back so we waited a hour then started tracking. Blood was almost nonexistent but we found a drop here and there. We tracked it to a cliff edge and looking down the buck was bedded but saw us and took off again. I knew the terrain so I ran about 150 yards and turned where I thought the buck was going. This was our neighbors property and had just been timbered so there were brush piles everywhere. I hid behind one and the buck was heading right at me, I never mentioned I didn’t bring my bow only a knife, I stepped out and was 5 yards away from the buck both facing each other, he put his head down and charged at me. I grabbed his antlers and the fight was on, I don’t know where I got the strength but I held him off and I could tell he was fading quick. I let go and backed up a couple of yards and now he’s wobble legged trying to stand but falls. Wanting him not to suffer I get behind him and use my knife to puncture his lungs. He died after a few seconds. I was in my mid thirties then and now realize what a bone head move it was. I was very lucky.

Just thought of one...
My folks have a cat scratching post/lounge in a window facing their big back yard and woods. It's a post with a top piece shaped like a U, so a cat can lay in it kinda cradled. When your outside, my dad said it looked like a deer head and rack. I always said he was crazy. Lol. But I couldnt believe it when deer come in the yard they freeze and stare at it forever. Lol. It's hilarious!!!

I saw this happen and even I have trouble believing it: One time I found a great place to hang a stand, first time sitting it I shot a deer exactly where I was aiming and killed it! LOL.

Second or third year of hunting, in my very early 20’s. Sat on a 5 gallon bucket right off a trail overlooking a dry swampy area. Raining hard as could be, archery season. I had my hood up on my raincoat. For reasons unknown, a button buck blitzed right beside me from behind and into the dry swamp area. I absolutely fell off my bucket, probably even screamed like a girl. He didn’t touch me, but was within in inches when he ran through. Button buck stood in front of me about 15-20 yards away, staring at me flailing on the ground reaching for my bow. Of course, he took off once I grabbed my bow.

I once shot a deer in the rain so heavy that the blood trail was gone when I picked up the trail. Honest to God truth I smelled his trail, as soon as I got to the spot where I shot him an found no blood but could smell him, I followed the smell all the way to the buck. Wind was a cross wind from where I picked up the trail to where I found him.

There was a fawn on our property that wasn't afraid of of humans when I was a teenager. As a 1.5 year old it was the same way. You could throw branches with leaves and it would eat them. We named it George. I shot him at 3 yards on the second day of bow season. George tasted great.
