Because a great lobby and you drive to a job site and sleep in the truck or watch tictock videos. How is that different from your job? I don't go to job sites!

Debt free is very good, how are you on your retirement savings? If you're set on retirement go to the other job if you don't have that hammered out yet you might think about staying where you are for now and throwing some major money in that direction. Sas made a great suggestion, if you have your Class A CDL you could probably pick your rate and your hours???

No wife, no kids. I do most everything myself around the house. When I worked a ton of OT I had to hire people to do things around the house that I could have done. It was a wash money wise - all the OT went to paying others to do the work that I could have done.
It's a coin toss that only you can make.

I owe a friend a great deal on my last job change.
I worked for 20 years at INDOT, the last 15 in the Real Estate section at Vincennes. Spent an hour a day on the road in commute. My friend worked with me at INDOT until he got his surveyor's license and still didn't quit until State Personnel came out and said that the pay bump they were supposedly working on for surveyors was not coming to fruition. I told him to quit and go make the money that he deserved.
A few years later and I am now working with him again doing pretty much the exact same job I had at INDOT, but being paid for my skills/knowledge with a 40% pay increase and my commute is a total of 3 minutes a day.
I can't thank him enough for growing his department at the firm that we are working to include me and a couple more area guys with skills to benefit the company for which we work.
I can say that the commute was a BIG influencer on my considering the job change and then when they offered me the pay increase, it was a slam dunk. Benefits and PTO was a match to what I was getting at INDOT.

90 hours in a week is a lot for a DOT driver must be some violations going on! Mixer trucks are exempt from federal dot regulations. How, i don't know but they are. Read here…. www.concreteconstruction.net/how-to/concrete-production-precast/drivers-hours-of-service-rules_oSo you don’t have a CDL or a Health Card for DOT? Still not convinced of your hours of service exemption ! But it maybe until something serious happens! Actually you may fall in the 100 mile rule for hours of service exemption…forgot about that!

I tend to agree with what a lot of the gents on here are saying. Go with the job that gives you more time to yourself and wife. Personally to me it doesn't matter how much money I'm making because a job will always be a job. Not many people around here get up in the morning and say "Man I'm glad I get to go to work today".
On the contrary whenever I'm allowed a waking moment to where I can go out to the lake I sleep about 3 blinks the night before get out there stupid early and tell myself I have to do this more often. The reason I can't is because I have a wife and 3 girls that depend on me to work my hind end off so are allowed to have some of the comforts in life that I never did growing up.

I ask a few of my clients and associates in construction the same thing because I am right there with you. Most of them say keep going and bank it because it won't last much longer. Idle hands are the devil's playground, anyway. I haven't started my boat this year and don't really keep tabs on my work hours, but it is substantial and so is the money. For most construction, yes. Concrete hasn't slowed down and isn't going to. One project alone we are working on is 80,000 yards over the next three years. That doesn't include small companies. The 80,000 yard job isn't going anywhere since it's the company that makes our cement and we are the only company that can handle the project

Addendum to the discussion. duff works Monday through Thursday and has off Friday through Sunday. I'd always work Friday through Sunday. Built in excuse not to have to hang out with him. Does that sway anyone's response

I would talk with current work and see if they can make things work for you if not probably move on! They have to know that replacing you may not be easy…. It’s better to have that Truck moving then setting even if it a reduced amount! It be harder to replace than most. I absolutely take pride in what I do and making the job easier for my finishers. Any finishers will tell you that a driver will make or break a pour and I'm really good at what I do. Unfortunately if I walk away, I'm walking away. The plus is with the shortage of drivers, I can walk out tomorrow and they'd rehire me the next day. To add though, I moved to a different plant and we handle mostly small companies. I went from a plant that poured for multi million dollar jobs to one that we mostly deal with small companies that have, shall we say, low expectations. Quite frankly I'm bored

Sas made a great suggestion, if you have your Class A CDL you could probably pick your rate and your hours??? Honestly, taking insurance out of the equation, frugally living, I could retire today. I started "working" at 18 and have worked 6-7 days a weeks for the last give or take 30 years. I drive a +/- 20 year old truck and spend zero dollars on myself. I've been with my wife for 19 years. After experiencing what I did when I lost my dad, my only goal has always been to ensure she is well taken care of if I die tomorrow. I have worked my tail off to get to that point. I guess to answer your question, with 401 and life insurance, we are fine.

Here is my simple take on the situation.
You already know what you think you want to do and are just asking for support in that idea.
Ask the woman who has to put up with you every day. She will let you know if seeing you more often or spending the countless dollars you are currently making is more important to her.

I have a special perspective and am happy most days making money. The choice is yours and that is an awesome thing. I gave up sports to work starting around age 13 so it is mostly engrained in me.

If I told you my hourly rate in relation to what I do and deal with oh a daily basis you would tell me to run away as fast as I can
