Still have 2 toms close by and some gobbling and yelping going on. Gonna be difficult to pull one our way but we aren't throwing in the towel just yet!

I called in 2 Tom's but they hung up at about 70yds behind a hill. My buddy said heck with it let's go. I said you gotta try a stalk on them. Got nothing to lose. So he set out and made a circle up past where they were moving. He belly crawled the last few yards, popped over the hill, and he got him!!! About 30yd shot with 20ga.

I'm at work today, but got a call from my hunting partner about a half hour ago. He and his son doubled up on the field I spent my first 3 days on. He said the birds were very vocal early then they had 5 come into the field about 10. They were just about to give up and go look for mushrooms when they spotted the turkeys.

Thanks! He got me into turkey hunting and taught me all about it. Least I can do to pay back the favor with fun in the hunt and good comradery. The old wingbone call comes thru again today. It's worth the little effort to make one!

It's worth the little effort to make one! It's a great feeling when you can do that. I remember when I called in a bird for the guy that taught me how to hunt the critters.

FINALLY!!! Got a couple hens and a couple of toms showing up in the back food plot here. A hen and Tom were here at 7:30 am today. I might be out in the blind tomorrow morning. I HAVE TO make some phone calls at 8am, I'm debating on whether to risk spooking them if they are late or wait until Tuesday to go out.

I set up Saturday in a spot where I saw a tom hanging out last weekend and of course he doesn't show this weekend. But I heard a couple of gobbles on the other side of the road so I head over there and head up a big hill just to run into another guy hunting those birds so I let him chase them and I went the other way. I ended up walking close to a mile in on an old logging road and never struck up a gobble. Sunday morning I though I would be smart and get to the top of the big hill before they started gobbling so I could make a quick move on them and not be worn out from climbing the hill. Of course no gobbles on this side of the road today so I head back down and before I can zero in on where the gobbling is coming from he shuts up.
Looks like my season is over. Next weekend I'll be in the Bahamas...bringing a rod to chase some bonefish while I'm there.

My brother shot a dandy double beard this morning in Evansville. His first ever bird. Going to be hard to top that.

Had a friend that was nice enough to take me to where some turkeys were located. Had one fly down and go away from our initial setup. We circled around and got in front of him for our next setup. Worked great except when he popped out of the woods and got a look at his decoys, he sprinted across the food plot just outside my yardage limit. We had out a jake and submissive hen. Never did get close enough. Was a dandy bird, perfect fan and the beard was 9-10". He strutted for about half an hour 75 yards away from us at the end of the opening. We ended up heading to another area of the farm and had no luck getting any other gobblers to respond even though we had heard 2 others earlier while working the one that was decoy shy. My friend said the last time he hunted this farm that he had 2 toms come in and spooked when they spotted 2 hen decoys.
I'm thinking this place may get more pressure than he or the landowner knows about or else these birds just hate decoys.

We’ve had turkeys around our house pretty much every spring, but very rarely get close to or on our land. Two springs ago before season had two strutters and two hens by our barn and that was the first and only time I’ve saw them in the spring. I’ve been calling to one off and on this spring that’s across our woods and behind a neighbors house. Went outside late this morning while taking a break from work and he was just gobbling away. I got my call and was just letting him have it. Then went back in to work. I walked out on the deck for lunch and he gobbled behind the house. I got my gun, threw on some camo, grabbed a mouth call, and snuck down the hill. He was still gobbling but moving away. I got behind one tree and then was able to sneak about twenty more yards to another as I knew he was over the ridge. I called a few times and knew he was moving my way. I’m just standing behind a large tree and I see him cutting from right to left. He went behind a tree, I clicked safety off and got ready, but I never saw him come out the other side. Then I heard putting about ten yards to my left. Somehow he made it through without me seeing him. I was able to swing, get on him, and let er rip just as he was heading down the hill. Of course then came the flopping another 25 yards down the hill as I was trying to catch up to him. Needless to say this is the first longbeard I’ve killed on our property and it was on lunch from work. Took me a total of 22 minutes to shoot him and get back to the house. That’s freaking awesome...Congratulations man!!
