This is where we are today: My neighbor recently received some backlash. She posted a picture on facebook of her daughters wearing Seuss-themed clothing for Read Across America. She immediately received some grief from someone that she doesn't even know. She then found out that anther individual took a screenshot of the post and emailed her employer. They apologized, but informed her that this is a personal matter and non of the company's business. Let me remind everyone, THESE WERE HER CHILDREN AND HER PERSONAL PAGE! Then, something even more ridiculous happened. A lady (black) that she is (now formerly) facebook friends with my neighbor commented on her post that "I hope you enjoy your white privilege." I happen to know this lady due to our kids being the same age and having a common activity. She is a successful professional and her husband (black also) is as well. They live in one school district, but drive their kids to the whitest school around. The last time I saw them she was driving a new Cadillac and he was in a BMW 7 series. I know for a fact that they take very nice vacations and spoil their kids with about anything they ask for. Privilege? I’d like to say unbelievable, but that’s the society we live in now and I can’t stand it. Glad our little school district doesn’t care about that stuff. They celebrated Seuss and reading all week long.
