They try to ban them every year or so. Doesn't mean they won't succeed one day but honestly I don't see the general public caring too much 1 way or another. DNR'S statement is in line with agree the events are fine.
Too bad channel 13 gave the hsus any air time. They should interviewed the man receiving the check and have him praise these guys.

Nothing wrong with a bunch of hunters getting together to show off their catches! If they ban this, then it will be beagle and coon hunting trials, big buck contest, Hoosier record book, B&C, P&Y, ect, ect.

The contest are already banned in some states per the news link... just saying! Yet other states pay hunters and trappers a bounty to kill coyotes, fox, coon, badger, skunks. I have a friend that shoots coyotes from a plane for South Dakota, he gets paid really well. Even Indiana just gave out fish of the year awards!!! Or don't fish lives matter....LOL

Yeah.... that why I said it’s not going away just going low keyed
Not sure how putting a game in a record book evolves this, you pay you don’t get paid! Seems like a stretch...

Minnesota wanted to put a end to coyote running pens. To keep from giving the Minnesota DNR a black eye by shutting down pens, they made a law that any animal that is trapped MUST be euthanized before it leaves the trap site, and no wildlife may be transported alive. Thus there is no way for a coyote pen's to replenish their pens.

Non hunters will never realize that the nutballs will never stop with contests or any other thing they see as more vulnerable. Then they will get mad when the same folks tell them what length leash they can use or when they hit the third deer on the highway after all hunting is banned.

And america will never be a socialist country...I don't care one way or another. 99.9% of guys will not be the next Les Johnson. The reason they will be banned is there are so many people that are "okay" with hunting, not their thing but aren't so much against it. They see this as killing contest for money. If it ever came to a vote or was pushed to certain elected officials, it'll fall. It's not a if, it's a when. Rabbit trials the rabbit rarely gets caught and that's even running big, fast dogs like I do. Best of the best is held in Indiana every year. All over the u.s. come here. Last year maybe 5 rabbits caught over a week running.
Higgins pigeon shoot is how they'll fall.

What is that saying? How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
Stop these hunts and they will just move on to something else. They are already all out against trapping.

By no means am I against them. I'm just saying, days are numbered. They may have "contests" but they'll be no prizes or money allowed to be donated

I'm not against it but the guys I've run into that run coyotes around here don't do anything to help their image.
They come into an area where they aren't known, gain permission from one landowner, then blow their hounds through entire sections, knowingly trespassing on many others. The whole time, making laps around the sections with unfamiliar 4wd trucks with whip antennas and dog boxes with dead coyotes stacked on top, drive out in fields where they don't have permission, etc. It's a pretty lousy image to non hunters.
I think it's a great sport in big wide open country where the farms are 500 - 1000 acres and bigger.

Weird vehicles just parked in front of your house, dogs running through property and blowing everything out where you have permission.

Ended up with their truck, farmer truck, farmer kid's truck, 2 sheriff's trucks and a ICO truck all in the field before things got settled down.

I have never hunted coyotes so I am ignorant as to why their mouths are tied shut? They give very strict instructions at the pre hunt meeting. Mouths are likely tied shut with a special tie. The amount of cheating is unbelievable in these hunts. Obviously, there are a lot of honest guys, but there is also some big prizes at some of these.
