My mother had bypass surgery a couple of years ago. Yesterday she was feeling odd and went to get checked out. The stress test came back abnormal, so they are gonna do a cath at 3:00 today. Prayers appreciated! Thanks.

My mother had bypass surgery a couple of years ago. Yesterday she was feeling odd and went to get checked out. The stress test came back abnormal, so they are gonna do a cath at 3:00 today. Prayers appreciated! Thanks. Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she has some nitro gylcerin pills handy just in case. Are they going to do the catherization in her left wrist? That's a little painful as I know, I just had that done to me back in November. The veins used from the leg to do the bypasses don't always last very long. I had quad bypass and the cath showed two of my 4 bypasses had failed. I guess it depends on which heart arteries are blocked and bypassed as I'm still alive. I too was felling bad and weak and out of breath and then had a chemical stress test done before the catherization. I knew something was wrong Now I take nitro and aspirin pills if I get any chest pain. My doctor said that he could not do any stents. He said to take the nitro and call him if I needed him. I figure I will have another heart attack and end up in the ER again. I just wish that when they did the cath that he could have opened up the blocked artieries. But leg veins don't last as long as an artery. They just give out. I guess the only option is another open heart operation and take a vein out of the other leg for me. They went into the left side of my heart. Evidently I have some damage to my heart muscle as my heart is enlarged and not pumpiing like it should. Prayers for your mom.

I understand they are going through the leg. I hear ya on the bypasses...one of hers gave out shortly after the first open heart surgery. I hope you keep on truckin too!

Prayers for her.. and Mooseiam.
I had the cath through the wrist and it wasn’t bad. My wife had it through her groin. I think it has to do with what size the veins are in the wrist?
My wife's Veins are small and she couldn’t do the wrist or even have stints put in her heart. I had two stints put in.
Only blood thinner I’m on Now is baby aspirin.

Thank you all, the cath did not see "any blockage, damage, or change" as they put it. They are sending her home tonight. Thank you, I believe prayer is powerful. If you are just reading this, send one up for my father-in-law, just got a call he collapsed and hit his head. He is basically ok for now, but they are testing everything...I'm worried it's Mr Ticker; he's been running on the same stents for twenty years, so we'll see. Thanks again!

Mom is still doing fine.. Father-in-law is now in Louisville getting a pacemaker. Didn't catch the name of the problem but essentially the upper and lower parts of the heart are not communicating electrically, causing a low resting heart rate. The doc said he could go home and "wake up dead" or get a pacemaker, lol. The good news is that the problem is easily corrected by the pacemaker. Now all I have to do is find Norton hospital and successfully bring home the Mrs. This, to me, is the scariest part...I do not have a lot of fears, but city driving is one of them. I'd rather enter a cage fighting tournament.

Well this has worked out about as good as it could. I made not only one but four trips into Louisville and survived, thanks to the phone's GPS. Really, the new setup isn't bad for a big town. Plenty of lanes, and decent ramps. Most of the problem was me being terrified of failing two people utterly dependent on me to get them there and back.
Father in law has a new Pacemaker with a little cellular box that sits on his nightstand and monitors it. If it sees anything it calls the doctor. No secrets these days.
Falling and hitting his head was a blessing, as it got him to the ER and they discovered a low heart rate..around 40. The pacemaker doubled it. If he had sit down and the dizziness passed, he might have shrugged it off and died in his sleep.
Thanks everyone!
