Welcome back and glad to read that you and your wife are back, picking up a great hobby (hiking), doing projects (box blind) and the most important (going to church). Hopefully it both of you taking hikes. Mother nature does some great healing.

Glad to see you back on board, if you don't mind taking a bit of advise from a senior citizen don't make deer hunting a numbers game enjoy the preparation as much as the participation.

Thanks, Duff. We've still not met in person even though we live within a few miles of each other (lol), yet I've met your wife a couple of times at hikes she was on with Teena. I hope you've had some good hunting. You ain't missing much! You need to teach me long range plinking!

You ain't missing much! You need to teach me long range plinking! I'm far from an expert on shooting. Lol! I have stretched my deer rifle out to 500 yards a couple of times to confirm that the feedback from my shooting app did indeed match my actual scope dope. I'm thrilled to death that my Ruger American rifle straight out of the box holds sub-MOA with lead-tipped Sierra Pro-Hunter bullets all the way out to the 500 yards that I tested it to. Can't beat a cheap rifle and non-match ammo doing that well. I plan to set up a 500-yard range this Spring on one of the farms I hunt.

Thought about (or done) any backpacking? I really enjoy it, but don't set aside nearly enough time for it. Actually, I've done a little, and am planning to do quite a lot this year. I probably spent close to $2K this past Fall stocking up for it. I have two packs, an Osprey Atmos 65 for the overnight stuff and an Osprey Talon 22 for day hikes. I bought a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 tent, since I'm trying to put together a somewhat lightweight package, along with a Big Agnes down sleeping bag and inflatable pad. I tried to choose lightweight stuff for each item I needed. I'm wanting to section hike the Knobstone Trail this year, as I don't have the time to dedicate to doing the entire 52 miles as a through hike. The logistical nightmare is having to arrange two vehicles, one at the beginning of a section and one at the end. I had to do the entire 42-mile Tecumseh Trail that way and it was a big hassle. I also sold my "cheaper" kayak and bought a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 140 kayak and Werner Camano carbon fiber paddle. I never thought I'd pay more for a paddle than I paid for my last kayak. Lol!

Nice! My last "big" trip was 2015, hiked to the Chinese Wall in Bob Marshall Wilderness. Most years I just get in a few overnighter in the HNF.

Thanks, guys! I'm ready to get back back in the deer saddle. I'm amazed that I pretty much sat out two seasons, but at least the bucks will all be two years older when I get back into the woods this fall. LOL! My 2018 deer: My 2019 deer: I rounded up all the parts to build a .300 AAC Blackout AR-15 pistol for a treestand gun, and had them Cerakoted. I got them back last week and assembled it. Talk about planning a season ahead. LOL! Looks like you're on the "comeback trail" for sure! And from those shots, looks like your marksmanship is intact! God bless.

This year's doe (bottom pic) was only the second deer in my hunting career (my first season was 1995) that I've shot beyond 100 yards. She was at 255 yards. I cheat. LOL!

Welcome back! I do the same thing, but also add in wind drift data. What can do you have and how do you like it? Thanks. The suppressor is an SRT Shadow. I've used it on my current .260 Rem, and well as .308 and .25-06 rifles and have no complaints. Doug Melton builds great suppressors, and even though I bought it in 2003, I don't feel that it is dated. It still does what it should. It is heavy at 28 ounces, so I'd definitely go titanium if I were buying today. Thanks, Saltydog!
