Text for the Day -- Psalm 119:161-168 ---------- Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words. I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil. I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law. Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous ordinances. Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. I hope for your salvation, O LORD, and I fulfil your commandments. My soul keeps your decrees; I love them exceedingly. I keep your precepts and decrees, for all my ways are before you.
Devotional ---------- The psalm celebrates the writer's love for God's teachings. Each verse of the palm makes reference to the great passion that the writer has for God's word. Here is a proper attitude for responding to God's speaking. God authors the words that give life, strength, peace and joy-filled hope. In the midst of so many words that are false, abusive, destructive and smell of death in the world, it is wonderful to have the words that lead us to true joy and our true home. It is not a bad idea to praise God seven times a day for these words of life.
Prayer ------ May your word be hope and life to me today, gracious God. Amen
