Curious for those hunting this muzzle loader season and using black powder pellets, are you all shooting 100 grain or 150 grain? I have mine sighted in using only 100 but am wondering if anyone finds it necessary to have the extra powder? Two 50 gr pellets pushing 295 gr Powerbelt out of Remington 700ml with 209 primer. I have taken a few deer with this setup. The only problems I have had was when I tried to use 777 pellets. The muzzy didn't like it would sometimes hang fire. I bought this setup used ~10 years ago for $150 (with scope). It's paid for itself a few times over.

bowman, add another 6.5 grains to your load....... This is a tight PacNor SS fluted barrel, I'm supposedly not able to shoot that much powder without blowing the sabot but that is the accuracy node where the gun likes it, and the sabots hold together. Last time I shot this at 300 yds, it was 8" low but I had it (IIRC) a wee bit high at 200 yds., maybe a 220 yd zero. This has the tupperware stock, the stock has the 3rd action screw mod so I can pull the bolt without loosening up the action and the mag well was filled with weights and epoxy. I'll keep that powder charge in mind(or anything in between) but I really don't need any more velocity. this rifle is zeroed at 200yds with this load and my trajectory tables show 2.6 high at 100 and 2.1 low at 250. Just hold center mass on shoulder and shoot. Yes, I could shoot farther out, it's only down 4.7 at 300 and 7.8 at 350 and I can see deer out to 400-450 in the crp field I hunt but I'll just content myself to watch them at those ranges Steve

I tried sabotless and the Pittman Aeromax bullets but the recoil was pretty stout (325 grain bullet) and the meat damage to the deer was more than I wanted to see. Any deer that I hit with them dropped on the spot, but too much meat damage in my eyes. When I have more time I'll try to get the 250g SST's shooting sabotless and running around 2300-2400 fps.

Good luck in the morning everyone who's going out for opening morning of muzzleloader. It`s going to be a cold start. Maybe that will have them up and moving good. Stay warm, be safe, and keep your powder dry.

Getting off work shortly. On vacation all next week to hunt. Gonna brave the cold for the opener in a few short hours. Got several properties in 3 counties, plus the mz tag to work on. So, many options to get some more meat in the freezer. Good luck all.

Nothing moving where I was in the morning. Hunted same woods, different stand for the evening. There are a lot of trees torn up, rubbed like crazy, some pretty decent diameter. Keep hoping to meet up with that buck. Al I saw was a pair of fawns at about 5:50.
