My wife called me around 2:30 today to let me know basement is flooded. I was able to get home around 3:30 and it was. She just finished 3 loads of laundry. Guess where the water went. Found out my 5" pipe from home to septic was clogged. Took a good 3 plus hours to clear. Spent next 3 hours using wet vac. 4 gallon unit and sucked up 18 fills. Dehumidifier is running. Tomorrow I'll finish cleaning up and putting everything back. What a mess. I have a tree about 15 feet away. Might have a root issue. Need to get a camera and check.

If you have a Sunbelt rental store nearby, their commercial-grade dehumidifiers and floor blowers can work wonders. Home Depot probably has something as well.

It looks a lot better this morning. Now it's time to clean-bleach the floor and legs of furniture. Only lost a couple throw down rugs. Perfect timing, but thankful it was not tomorrow. Just behind a little cleaning the main floor for Thanks Giving.

How old is your septic system and what caused the clog?

We think a root from an old spruce we had. It was clogged about 2 feet outside of house and that's close to where the spruce was. We did pull out some rotten roots and lots of TP. I'm going to get a camera and check. The septic is 28 years old. I just finished cleaning all of the basement. Everything back to normal. I put septic root rout in last night. Pipe is flowing good now.

Just had a camera run through the pipe. My homemade snake (auger) cleared out the root and it's clear. We checked all the way to the septic tank (54 feet). We had a 4" auger, but wasn't needed. The root issue is right outside the foundation at the top of the 90 degree pipe. Right where it goes down deeper to meet code. It's about and inch wide root. Root entered at the seam of the 90 and straight pipe. Should be easy to dig and fix when it's warmer and dried out some. Going to run the homemade snake 1st of every month until fixed.

You might want to become a regular user of prune juice or stool softeners at least until spring.
