Several years ago I came across a great "Black Friday" deal on a Rossi 92 44 mag. I haven't shot it hardly any because I don't want to put a scope on it, and my eyeballs are past 70 years old.
Anyhow, I took it to the range yesterday evening and put a few into about a 2" group at short range. I'm thinking that it just might be the ticket for hunting from a blind that I've built up in an area that's pretty thick.
The light little rifle has a pretty good kick when shooting 265 grain cast with a top load of H110.
Anyone here hunt with a lever gun? I remember an "Old Iron Sights" who posted quite a bit several years back- he hunted with a .357 Rossi. Don't know whatever happened to Him.

I "think" he moved out west somewhere and we never heard from him again.
He had some interesting and informative posts.

As a matter of fact, the largest buck I've ever harvested was taken last season with a Marlin 1894 in .44mag. This was a scoped rifle, and about an 80 yard shot. Two years ago I used that same Rossi 92 that you have, but mine is chambered for .454Casull, to drop two doe in about 3 seconds. This was with iron sights, all the way out at about 15-20 yards! Three years ago I took a decent 7 pointer with a Marlin 336 in .35Rem, and with iron sights, at roughly 60 yards. I love a lever gun to hunt with, at least for the ranges they were intended for. BTW- My eyes are on the north side of 60...

The first year that pcr rifles became legal, I bought a stainless Marlin in .44 mag. I sold it a year or two later which has always been a huge regret of mine. It was a great gun for the dense, hilly woods that I hunt. I "need" to get another one someday.

I hunt with 3 different Marlins. 1894 DOM 1895 25-20 1894 44 mag 336 SC DOM 1952 35 Rem. I have scopes on all of them. If I were to do it again I would get a 45 LC instead of the 44 mag. The bores slugs at .4325 so getting lead bullets they have to be special sized. It shoots the 240 grain Hornady XTP very good. I am really liking the 35 Rem short. It is very accurate and I can't wait to see what it is really capable of next spring. I just got an 1895 45-70 and I will scope it too.

The oversized bore was a challenge. I played around with a mold and got it to drop at .433. It shot those pretty well, but I didn't keep the rifle for very long. I called Marlin and was told that the big bore was "within specs."

I use a .357 Marlin topped with a Millett red dot. I used to use iron sights, but then one day I realized I couldn't see them with about 10 minutes or so of legal light left when hunting in the woods, especially on cloudy evenings.
I've taken several deer with, including my two biggest bucks. I've doubled down on does twice with it, and had an opportunity for a trifecta the last time (I didn't take the shot since I though that might be considered borderline genocide). The report isn't obnoxious, and the kick isn't bad. I use 180 grain, flat nose bullets from Buffalo Bore. I'm hoping to put my boys behind it this weekend.
<<<< Actually it's pictured in my avatar, along with my oldest son.
