On our third Keurig. First, two scaled-up internally on our hard water after a little over a year each. Switched to using distilled for our drinking water and coffee, and for the cat, after his bout with a UTI and some advice from my cousin who's a vet. Eight years now with no further issues with the cat or the Keurig. Give it a white vinegar enema occasionally if it starts getting slow, but that's only been needed a couple of times during those eight years. The wife likes it for convenience when she's fixing a cup of instant soup or cocoa. Figured if the distilled was good for the cat and the coffeemaker, it was probably a good idea for the two old codgers shuffling around here too. You would be shocked as what's dissolved in the drinking water coming out of the city tap water faucets. I worked in the environmental testing field and was the Quality Control Manger for an Analytical Laboratory that tested different sources of water. We tested well waters and water for companies in the area including the water used by a huge company that made pharmacuticals. We tested for dissolved inorganics and for dissolved organics. We had 5 chemists working in our little lab and the company has laboratories all over the world. When I worked for the Government I purchased a Millipore Filtration system for our laboratory that produced type 1 grade reagent water used by the USEPA to test drinking water. I also got our lab certified by the Indiana State Board of Health to test drinking water for bacteria. The test that are done when there is a water line break and they have to test the water to see if it's safe to drink after the water lines are repaired. I took a few chemistry courses in college but was not very good at chemistry back when I was a freshman. I played Ice hockey and was pretty good at that instead. I was a Pre-Veterinary Medicine Major and switched majors and studied Environmental Science. These days I'm doing good just to spell Veterinary Medicine. That was over 40 yeas ago now. Remember if the water is bad for your coffee maker it can't be good for your body.

I forget what brand coffee maker I have but it has a timer on it so I can set it to be done brewing when I wake up.
