Guys/gals, Am I the only one who "sees things" during darkness (right before visible daybreak or after twilight)? I'm talking a distant glimmer of light and your convinced it moved or got dimmer/brighter or disappeared? Like someone using a flashlight in the distance. Maybe noticed 2 small glows you thought were eyes reflecting moonlight? Possibly a shadow that seems to change shape? No, I don't get freaked out or scared easily. I've been noticing things while in the tree, way before legal shooting time or way after, that just seem strange. Maybe my old eyes playing tricks. IDK. Doesn't happen all the time. Really noticed last Saturday. Was too dark to see my hands but off in the distance I noticed what appeared to be 2 small, dim lights. Only thing close might be neighboring property horse barn? Then 2 became 3, then 4. Seemed to get brighter and thought pre daybreak causing it. The 4 lights then got dimmer. Shot that theory. After sun up the only thing I could see in that direction was thick trees w/leaves. Couldn't be fireflys-haven't seen one in 2 months. Please be gentle and not suggest a professional therapy couch to lie on. My eyes were checked in June w/slight adjustment to prescription glasses/contacts.

Up to a few years ago I could see shapes in the dark. Only used flash light at the tree. Just to make sure I'm connected correctly to the life line and to tie on pull up string.

I’ve seen some strange things in the dark. I now have night vision binoculars so I can see things in total darkness.

B&C, don't think Getto boys helped me-lol! Maybe i'm old. Don't have any problem seeing with light-natural or artificial. Maybe my mind plays tricks-IDK. Maybe the lights I seen were drops of dew reflecting moonlight hence explaining numbers and movement and intensity changes. Just wish I knew for certain. Faint light that if you focus directly at it you don't see but view off the side of light source it appears. I guess i'm the only one. I don't loose sleep over it but does make me wonder.

When I was younger I would see possums that ended up being grass clumps. Deer that became trees.

It mainly just bugs the crap out of me because there are clear answers to what I see. I've "seen" animals that turned out to be stumps that I swore moved during darkness. I've "seen" silhouettes that were just trees or shrubs. But the light issues have got me baffled.

Just image what your mind can see if you tried as hard as hunting. You know the old saying, "put you mind to it". Just kidding. They are like ghosts at times. There one minute and gone the next minute. One big reason I changed from vertical bow to crossbow is the vision. Pins where blurry-double and my glasses get in the way at times or hit them moving my bow to get the right angle shot. Having the scope removed those issues.

Waynes, That's what is weird. I have good vision. It could be mind or vision tricks. No problem looking at sight pins then to target. No blurry distorted vision. It's just when lighting is minimal. My wife is a health nut and I'm opposite. I'm not overweight and get lots of exercise at work but have crappy habits. She says smoking and caffeine effects vision as does water intake. So I cut way back last year and increased water(blah) consumption, still had bad night vision. I've hunted w/glasses and contacts-same. It's very hard to explain so I guess i'll just nap until legal shooting time.

When you were @ the eye doctor, did you bring this up to him/her?

I’ve seen tons of B and C bucks in the dark that turn out to be trees, stumps and bushes in the light. Yes, if stared at hard enough in the dark they WILL move about. But by daylight they stop moving. I think its like the Toys in Toy Story that don’t move if a human is around. 😉 Probably not your problem but I get these flashing strings of light in my eyes on occasions. No big concern. www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=7024

My wife has cataracts and she does not like both ends of light. Low or bright. She will be having surgery soon.

Thanks for article Woody-ur right, not really what I'm seeing. jjas- was at optometrist in June. Tested and fitted for glasses and contacts. She dilated eyes and checked for Glaucoma. Said everything looks fine just tweaked old prescription. Waynes- I will dig into this. I don't have any issues driving at night or with oncoming vehicles even the new fangled HID/LED lights. I appreciate all your guys help, info and opinions. It means a lot. It just seems to happen sitting in total darkness besides starlight/moon. I will say, I used to walk in using an old mini Maglite(2 AA cells) with no problem. As years progressed, I've needed a brighter lite. Old age maybe???

I have age related dry macular degeneration. My right dominant eye is a tad worse. That hurts my accuracy when looking through a scope as the crosshairs is wavy.
I wear sun glasse anytime I’m out. I’m cool! 😎
The LED car lights are blinding to me. I’ve got LED lights in all my light fixtures in the house and if I look at them too long I’ll have a bright spot in my eyes for 15 minutes or so.
What I am saying is take care of your eyes...and hearing too.

The one time that I thought I saw something and it was actually there was a 140” buck that my buddy shot his first time hunting, 45 minutes in Twice, I've seen a critter and thought it was an inanimate object, after thousands of times misinterpreting things the other way around. The first time, I saw antlers sticking up that I just assumed were antler-looking tree limbs - until they bounded away from about 40 yards. The second time was in Montana. I'd glassed a hundred stumps that looked like bears. I saw another one, glassed up the hill a ways, returned to the spot and the stump was gone. Found it walking away from me, a beautiful chocolate colored black bear (no shot).

It sucks lol, he was about 120 yards along a row of corn and saw the antlers 15 mins or so before legal light, scanned again and didn’t see the same thing but thought I just looked at the wrong spot... the woods is a whole different story though especially in the rut😂

Don't know your age, but 50+ brings on changes in the gel in your eyes, it gets thicker. I have had some issues with retinal tugging where the gel tugs on the retina and causes weird light flashes and tracers that you only notice in the dark. Opthalmologist says it is normal for us older guys. It can get worse though with an actual retinal detachment, which is a real emergency. He said that if you get an effect like a curtain pulled partly over your eye, or extreme sudden floaters and blurry vision, get your butt to the nearest ER as fast as you can. Apparently if the retina actually detachs, blood flow is interrupted and if it is cut off for very long the tissue dies and you get permanent sight loss.
I went through this earlier this year, that's how I know.
Or, it could be aliens. All joking aside, I have seen similar dim lights in the predawn
