I have several of these, one in a bug-out bag, one in my deer hunting pack, and a couple just kinda laying around. Fortunately, haven`t needed them, and I`ve never just tried one for the heck of it. I can`t bring myself to try drinking water I know isn`t good, just for the heck of it. But everything I`ve ever read says these are the real deal. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/safe-drinking-water-lifestraw-2019-192220227.html

I had a life straw and a pouch water filter with me in Colorado. I didn't have to use them but I was glad to have one in my pack just in case. I found several springs that I would have fealt comfortable using them in it.

gregr, what is this Bug-out Bag you speak of? Lol...I know, sounds weird, but yes, I`m of that time and mindset where I assembled a bug-out bag when that was the craze and still have it today. But I promise, I don`t have a tinfoil hat.

I have filtered running stream water thru a coffee filter then drank it thru my Sawyer-No ill effects and I'm still here

gregr, no I haven't. I only had the Sawyer at the time while camping @ Muscatatuck. Did not notice any chemical, metallic or off taste. Tasted like some of the purified bottle drinking water-just bland. I'm no big plain water fan but when shtf, i'll adjust

When living in Ca. a bug out bag was a requirement because of the possibility of an earthquake cutting off all the services you take for granted. It was more of a week's worth of provisions though, basically anything you'd need for a week to survive, water, food, etc.
Once a year we'd go thru it and refresh it. I have a Katadyn water filter here that I have stashed away, I forget how many gallons it's good for.
