Your spot on about the tourist traps, the best and most memorable is the wildlife and the scenery. It's to bad you didn't get a chance to visit Mount Moriah Cemetery just outside of Deadwood, some of the most outstanding characters are buried there.
You did a great job taking your family out there a vacation they won't ever forget.

LawrenceCounty, you're a geologist? If you don't mind my asking, where did you go to school? I went to ISU, and the Indiana University Field School in Montana (about a hundred years ago) IUPUI. I didn't go to field camp in Montana. IUPUI put on their own 3.5 week field camp class in southern California. We had to map ~9 square miles. Based on the rocks, faults, and folds in the area, we had to unravel the entire geologic history of CA. It was a tough but awesome class. We had to find our own way out there and back. On that trip is when I first got to experience the American West, including the trip through Utah.

I went for environmental stuff at IU, did that for a while, currently in industrial hygiene at Crane. I was just on USAJOBS earlier today checking out was available in the area. About a year ago I referred a coworker to a Explosive Hazardous Waste Disposal Coordinator position down at Crane. That was a tough gig to pass on, but the $ wasn't quite there.

Then you have proof that a knuckle dragging mouth breather with a SPEA degree can survive there so you know the bar is pretty low for productivity.

I work for IDEM, so I have plenty of experience with the knuckle draggers.... though I still prefer them over the "fully evolved" attorneys!

The mouth breathing epidemic is strong in both spots. But make no mistake...if I could have cracked the code I would have been a civilian employee in a heartbeat.

Momma isn't moving anywhere until the kids graduate, and my youngest is in 7th grade. The position I passed on was a civilian contractor. I was even considering trying to find a crash pad down there to stay in during the week, or some farmer to rent me a corner of a field to park a trailer in. It was close, but I couldn't quite get the numbers to work out.

Pcbs the gift that never goes away They do if you excavate the stream beds and then power wash the bedrock channel, all the while diverting the stream water in large diametet (36"?, 48"?) pipes/tubes.
