Thanks Woody! I just posted more pictures from the mountain top. We played in the snow for a while. It's an amazing feeling being that high. For a flatlander I'm handling the elevation great. If the mountain terrain would have been better I could have passed 12,000' easily.

A neighbor friend of mine is out there now and he got into some ground hornets. Had a bad reaction and luck had it that there was a hiker that came upon him that had an EpiPen and shot him up with it. He is in the hospital now but his wife said he is doing much better. Be careful Scrub!!

Yes it is. The mountain views alone have made the trip worth it. I woke up early today and did a lot of shooting at camp. We are headed out soon. It's really windy today.

Wind is a good and bad thing. They cant hear or smell you (if the wind is right) but you'll have trouble hearing them. Good luck..

Thanks Woody.
We spent 9 hours hunting the wallow and water today. It was cold and raining for most of the time. We didn't see a thing but did here a bugle. Tomorrow we are going to put in some miles and try calling. I'm hoping this weather change has them talking more.

Dang. Cold and raining isn't a time to hunt the wallow, hot and dry is. Yeah, I think your best bet tomorrow is put some miles in.

I don't want to try to sound like I know a lot about elk hunting, because I don't. BUT, every time I've gotten into elk, was because I just marched right in to the bugles. They aren't nearly as wary as a whitetail. If you keep the wind right, you can walk right up to them in thick cover, despite your own noise.

That's what we planned on doing but they aren't bugling yet. We talked to other hunters and read posts on Facebook reporting the same thing.

In warm weather, I've always found elk to be holed up in very steep north facing slopes of heavy dark timber and blow downs. They say elk have a harder time staying cool, than they do staying warm, so 50, 60 and 70 degree weather is real warm for them, they'll be trying to stay cool somewhere. Good luck !

I'll be packing in SE of Ouray tomorrow afternoon.
