I'm stuck between a hunting revolver or a personnel protection handgun.
Indiana reg (.243 caliber, 1.16 case, 4" barrel) with a list of illegals Ohio reg (.357 caliber, straight line case, 5" barrel,)
Currently, I don't own a pistol-handgun. My son thinks I should buy the protection handgun. I semi agree since I'm not a young pup anymore. 58 years old and looking at 60.
Trying to keep the cost under $700.00.
I have a nice hunting 308 rifle and shotgun for gun season.
What direction should I go. I thinking family protection 1st, then a hunting revolver in the future.

Why not go with a .357 mag for both? If you want to load down, you can shoot .38 or .38+p instead of full on magnums.
If it's going to be carry gun, then I likely wouldn't go that way, but if it's going to be a house gun, it would work.

I think just buy a .380, compact 9 or somehing like a S&W 36 or Ruger LCR along with a good holster first. You are a lot more likely to carry a smaller compact pistol than something legal to hunt with.
The minimum deer pistol would be something like a S&W 19/66 4"barrel .357 mag. I have one and it takes a lot to conceal. Select your deer pistol to suit your tastes. Big bore revolver, TC rifle caliber optics and have fun.

I'm going with a good compact with good holster. Maybe after season sales for the revolver. Thanks everyone

Looking at a SSCY CPX-2 CB Semi-Auto Pistol, 9mm, 3.1" barrel, 15 oz. Or Ruger LCP Semi-Auto Pistol, .380, 2.75" barrel, 1.65 lbs.
SSCY is $20 more $219. Heading there tomorrow during lunch time to check it out.
I prefer the Ruger over the SSCY, but going to look at a few.

Get the LCP2. Last shot hold open and better sights.

Get the LCP2. Last shot hold open and better sights. I looked at that one. Better reviews like you said. Thanks I think that's the one.

I put a veridan laser on it. Good in anything but sunshine. I either carry it in a pocket holster or in an ALIEN GEAR IWB. It feeds Federal and Hornady just fine. Winchester White box for pratice. For some reason mine does not like Remington. You will need to get a good grip on it. It needs a firm hand due to light weight.

I have the EC9S. Shoots very well; especially for it’s size.

Summer carry I have a Ruger LCP in a Sticky holster in my front jeans pocket.
Winter carry I have my Kahr CM9 on my hip. Also on my hip when deer and turkey hunting...
Looking at the Sneaky Pete "holsters" that look like cell phone cases..

The more I shoot the more I am getting to be a trigger snob. Next carry gun (9mm) will be a P229 Sig Sauer Legion Compact SAO.

I pulled the trigger. Ruger EC9s from Bass Pro. I'm not a pocket man, so I went a little bigger. LOL
Thanks for all the input and help. Greatly appreciate.
