Who applied for Reduction/reserved hunts? What are your thoughts on some of the bigger parks not being listed this year?

I applied for a couple with a buddy. I don't mind them being off and on different years. Hopefully these hunts are managing the parks like they need.

Ditto on the park hunts. We are just a tool for the biologists to use. I wouldn't mind if they kept the antlers of every buck.

With the number of trophy only hunters I've ran into over the years, I almost wish the parks were antlerless only. But, I have seen a "doe" pop out a softball sized 8 point rack when it hit the ground.

Agreed, that's why I am fine with them having a hacksaw there at the check station to remove the bony growth sprouting from their heads. I KNOW guys are passing does waiting for a buck and that's not the reason why we are there. A client that is a trophy buck hunter just the other day asked if I wanted to hunt does at his farm. He's got does eating the flowers around the house, deer ate most of the garden this year. I said "of course"! He said no bucks and I told him that it wouldn't be a problem, I don't care if it's a 200" whitetail, your place, your rules.

They then had to go to letting folks keep antlers as is now! You've never shot a buck at a park hunt FW? I've shot several over the years. The group of guys I hunt with have always had one simple rule. Shoot the first 3 deer that give you a safe ethical shot. Not going over the one allowed set of antlers is rule 2. The switch was made because there wasn't as many trophy holdouts as they had originally feared.

The switch as I know it was because of lack of Hunter..... the IDHA was the ones that got the park hunts started as I remember!

The allure of a 2nd buck is what drives many (probably most) hunters to apply for the reserved hunts. If you're just shooting does, you can have a much higher quality hunt on HNF or state ground any day of the season without the hassle of the park hunts. Take away the 2nd buck incentive, and I predict participation will drop way off.

I put in for harmonie and tern bar slough. One of the bonuses of my job is aerial views of the places I hunt.
That said I highly doubt I hunt tern bar if im drawn.
My hunting partner and I have one rule: follow the rules. Therefore we shoot the first buck and 2 does that present a safe, ethical shot.

I guess I need to buy my license so I can apply. Deadline is looming. Not gonna lie, the extra buck is nice but I’d still hunt if it was does only or they kept the antlers. I’ll always shoot the first three deer that meet the quota that I see. Last year just happened to be a nice 8 pointer and a doe were the first two to come by.

At the park hunts I always shoot the first 3 legal deer that present shots. I've been accused of trophy hunting because 2 of the bucks I killed were huge. Now military refuge are different. Any doe gets popped, but I try to hold off for a nicer buck. My daughter and I both applied for Big Oaks and Atterbury. Havent made my mind up for the parks yet. I usually hunt Versailles.

I applied for Mccormicks Creek 2 years ago. Very few deer, not many taken and to many hunters. I'm definitely picking some others to try.
