Some really good info in here, thanks to all. I'll chip back in.. I'm still very much learning as I only started squirrel hunting last fall/winter with a 10/22. I did have some success at the break of dawn finding a spot to sit in piney areas. This season I wanted to give the Remington 870 20 ga a try and have had some success as well. I've got a squirrel each in two trips, once sitting and catching one coming down to forage, and another scampering about while moving through the woods. Not sure I could have made either shot with the .22 as they were moving about. I have spent time still hunting with the .22 but haven't seen anything above. I'm sure it's my still hunting that could be improved rather that the gun of choice. The one's I did get were nearly the only one's I saw on each day, maybe because of the heat. I'm using 7/8 oz 3" #4 steel shot. It's marketed for waterfowl, but it actually patterned the best out of the few loads I tried, and the one's I've got had very little damage. Also just peace of mind with 5 kiddos not worrying about lead. For me, maybe it's the area, probably it's me, but in a few trips out I've heard no cutting, seen very little activity, and the one's I've harvested have been on shots I probably couldn't take with the .22. But I'm continually trying to learn and I think as my ability to identify good spots as well as learning more about all the areas I have to hunt from improve my results will as well. I'd love to have some success still hunting with the .22. I take both, but what comes into the woods is still kinda 50/50 on a day to day basis. Looking forward to learning a lot this season and thankful for the people who post here

I use a .22 for the entire squirrel season. Probably haven't used a shotgun for 8-10 yrs. I'm playing with a new one currently, that I bought back in July. It's a RAR with a nikon P3 3x9 EFR on board. The scope is one of the best I have used .
Nice looking set up!
