I am seeing reports of EHD in Indiana on other forums and the like (most recent was Owen county). Anyone here finding any dead deer near water? Please contact the DNR if you do. I doubt they really do much about it, but we as hunters have to be the eyes of those folks and we should at least report it so they know. What they do with the information....well, that's up to them. As I understand it EHD kills deer every year, but when we get long dry spells the availability of water draws the deer to places where the midge that carries it thrive. As such then more deer are exposed and thus die. I'm not sure there is much we can do....but my experience shows that August seems to be the month where we will start seeing more and more of this. So check your water sources on a regular basis.

Regardless of weather there are certainly deer lost to EHD every year but as you mentioned drought year's seem to be the worst. As I recall KY had a few outbreaks last year in areas and was a pretty normal rainfall year. Hopefully the deer loses are minimal this year.

Hard to fathom that with all the rain we've had this year, that it's dry enough to have to deal with EHD, but it's been dry here too the last 4-5 weeks.
Hopefully we'll get some rain today/tomorrow.

Like I said....I think we loose some every year. The drought years is when it gets very widespread and has a significant impact of a much larger area....and thus creates more of an outbreak type of situation. I think IN hunters got their eyes opened when we had it to a decent degree two years in a row (I'm thinking back around 2012). We had it in the northern part of the state one year and then in the southern part the other.... The lone time I have reported a deer the DNR simply chalked it up as EHD and didn't even come and take a look. Just be aware that now is the time we start seeing this stuff....and report anything to the DNR....and hope it's not real wide spread.

Looks like we have confirmed cases now in approx. no 12 counties. Who has confirmed them? The DNR or the deer farmers? Wild or fenced Deer? Fenced are usally first confirmed but deer farmers want everyone to think it Wild deer!!?

Hoping this rain coming will provide some relief. Could see it getting bad in my area again. Pond down a good couple feet.

Article written by Southeast Cooperative Disease Study: Confirmed cases found in following counties: Daviess, Dubois, Gibson ,Jackson ,Jefferson, Perry, Pike and Warrick counties. Suspected cases in 22 other Indiana Counties. Most notable to me: Dearborn and Switzerland.

I believe those were from a couple deer farms in Northern Indiana

I typically have to have it posted else where on the internet and then use the insert image and put in the URL address of the pic.

Looks like some areas got some rain relief. Unfortunately Switzerland, Ohio and most Ripley Co.'s missed out. No relief in near future that I can see.

Once again. Just west of Cincinnati near Batesville the storms split and go along the river and then up I-275. My area is cursed. My popular trees are turning brown and dropping.
