Or swap the card, get home to read it and realize that you put the same card back in the cam and have the new blank one still in your pocket. I've done that a number of times. At least the cams are only 20 minutes away. Lol. It happens. 😆

Had 3 does eating in plots for 30 minutes then got scared out by a small buck. They’re enjoying my plots.

Well, I suppose I should get the x-bow out and see if it's still sighted in. I may have the time to do it mid day today before hopping on a mower for 4+ hours at Moms.

That is one nice deer. Nice 10pt and still young. Hard to pass up on any ground.

Nope. I wish I could run cams at Crane, but they're not allowed. These came from HNF and some state forest lands.

Bringing this back up, as I've started some season prep here and there when I can get away from the house project. This year is a bit different, as I've mostly been focusing on getting my own property here set up.
The land is real thick, mostly early successional forest. It's kind of a long narrow rectangle of land, with a county road running along the north and west boundary. The first thing I did was cut in an access path along the east boundary, along with a small network of trails accessing different parts of the property. Without this trail system, much of the property would be nearly impenetrable this time of year. I've also gotten some pics of deer using these trails to get around, and I think the larger ones will be utilized as travel corridors for bucks during the rut.
I've hinge cut around some persimmon trees in the forest, they get a lot of sun now. Most of the hinge cuts are looking good and sending up new growth.
I've got three stands in, a double set near the west boundary I can access off the road, and a quad pod stand near the east boundary I'll get to off of the new path. I'll be putting up some more stands and also using my climber, but I intend to hunt the perimeter of the property rather than blow my scent over half of it by hunting in the middle.

I had a camera up in hnf Behind the camper for about three weeks, but didn’t get the deer numbers I expected on that trail, so I took it down and will try another spot if I find one. Have two other cameras yet to put out and may try some clover behind the house again.

Be sure to test all the windows in your home to make sure you can open them without them squeaking you don't want to spook a good deer.

I did a lot of work during the winter and spring. I have to stay out of the woods once it greens up and the bugs come out.
I cut a new deer highway across a hillside that is a tangled mess of fallen ash and osage trees. It connects two other trails. Once the bucks start cruising that should be a great spot to hunt. I've got a stand on each end of it. I also put in that bathtub water hole. The deer have been using it. I have been mowing all of our trails. I've only had to straighten my mower blades 3 times.

The clover I put on the logging trails popped up real well, but I haven't made it back there to check it for about a month. The test plot I dropped by my camper it growing like a weed.
I need to take the shovel back and finish filling in over the drain pipe, and take the saw and open some trails that currently have roadblocks. Several trees I thought I was going to have to cut have sprouted need life so I sorta have a bunch of hinge cuts. One I was upset about loosing is an 8 inch diameter beach tree that has completely brown up with leaves everywhere
