My point I was trying to demonstrate was that the vast majority of land....ANY land in Indiana is going to require permission for access for the most part. This link shows just where some states fall regarding public access to land. You will see that PA....ranks far higher than IN does (and I knew it did). We do have opportunities for public ground..but they are limited when compared to many other states..I was simply trying to temper expectations. Coming from PA, they may be in for a bit of a surprise as to how little land is open to the public here. www.backcountrychronicles.com/public-hunting-land/

Sometimes quality beats out quantity..... but I'd do my homework before heading to another state for sure!

I was just wondering because I know there is plenty of public land in PA, but unless you go North ( I can't speak for the Eastern part of the state), you wont be able to do a full turn around without seeing someone, no matter the season. I'm just trying to find info on what Indiana is like ya know.

I don't think it would be my #1 destination if I were travelling, but you know what they say about the grass always being greener on the other side. What other states have you researched? Kentucky? Missouri? Kansas? I do believe there are better options out there if you're looking for a "big" deer on public.

I've got a buddy from Michigan that comes down here every year and hunts Winamac F&G area (7,000 acres). He kills a real nice buck almost every year, but he's been at it a while and has learned how to hunt the place. There is a lot of good public hunting ground in IN, but I wouldn't expect to be highly successful on my first attempt. It will take some time to learn.

I just knew that my experience is that access to private ground is "difficult". I am sure if you have specific questions about a particular location others here will certainly give you their opinions. I hope you find you a good spot and you have some luck as well!

Hi, have you guys figured out what part of Indiana you’d be hunting? What’s the closest city to your house? Are you willing to drive far or want to hunt close to home?
