looking for some insight on a issue with with this 1911 not extracting.
after firing the case is only coming out of the camber half way then the extractor lets go.
Here are the things that I have done to eliminate the common sense stuff.
This gun is out of RIA custom shop ! and had less than 300 rounds through it.
1. Disassembled, inspected, Cleaned and reassembled
2. Tried different factory FMJ loads, Remington, Winchester, CCI, Federal, Sig, and some Good reloads
3. Tried 4 different mags, The factory mag, McCormick, Wilson and Colt.
4. checked tension if extractor.
after the first go around I then disassembled the gun removed the extractor and found the the claw was not holding on to the case rim but half way. When they the factory cut the claw on the extractor it was rounded off in the corner not allowing the claw to fully engage the rim of the case.
I filed the extractor back to square and reassembled, then tested to see if the tension was correct by the case test (passed)
Back to the range, The first mag (factory) ran flawlessly, the second mag fired then (Jammed)
Again went through the process of elimination of ammo and mags, Jammed after the first round.
We the exchanged extractor out of my sons Springfield 1911, with the RIA extractor in his springfield the gun ran flawlessly.
I then fired the RIA with the springfield (Jammed) first round.
Swapped back the extractors
My son then says to try his carry rounds (Remington Gold Saber) the gun ran 4 different mags flawlessly with no jams.
Ive heard the RIA was ammo finicky, Im not accepting that. Every 1911 Ive shot would run what you put in it, that why they have a reputable history.
Open to any common sense solution.
Thanks in advance.
