I've thinking about getting a new turkey gun. ( Started with simply looking at new sights then it evolved into a whole new set up. Don't ask LOL). I really like the new Mossberg 935 Magnum-Turkey www.mossberg.com/product/935-turkey-81046/But I sort of like the Remington V3 Field Sport as well. www.remington.com/shotguns/autoloading/v3-field-sport/v3-field-sport-mobu-country Obviously a price point difference. I've never owned a Remington shotgun but have and still owned several Mossberg. I really like their products. That being said, I don't own any autoloaders in which both of these are. So, although I can speak of Mossberg's reliability, dependability and accuracy with pump shotguns, I can speak for their autoloaders which I'm sure is a whole new ball game. Any pointers or things I need to consider before choosing? End of the day, I still have a great turkey gun. Just thinking of an upgrade is all. Thanks in advance.

Also, wasn't sure if this belonged in the firearms blog or here since it is turkey related.

I have the Remington V3 and recommend it without hesitation. Soft shooting, reliable and the same gas system as the Versa Max. I have the 28" barrel. It will shoot light to heavy loads with no problems. Max shell length is 3".

That's what I really like about the V3. This one is offered in a 26" barrel. Where as the Mossberg is 22".

If I was going to buy a new gun strictly for turkeys it would be a Remington youth model in 20ga. My twenty plus year old boys are still using theirs from when they first started hunting and can kill a turkey just as far and just as dead as my 3 1/2” 12ga. Much lighter to carry and that short barrel doesn’t catch on anything. They do both use the Hevi-Shot shells. My problem is I have a lifetime supply of 3 1/2” 12ga Hevi-Shot so I might as well stick with mine.

I would never pay that! The Hevi-Shot is high enough around $20 for 5 and they work well.

Never heard of them. I use handloads that are about 7 bucks each. Mine is an 80 yard gun no problem. If I bought them I would get Apex. Browning also makes them and I am sure more people will next year.

So for you TSS shooters, do you sight in with a cheap target load then just varify with the TSS?

That is best way. If your going to reload to can make a TSS trap to catch them and re use. They dont deform. Apex has a sell right now. Sign up for their mailing list and dont wait till January to buy from them they will be sold out

Well I decided. I went with the Mossberg 935 Magnum Turkey. Two reasons why, cheaper being one reason. The other reason is because I have used Mossberg firearms since I began hunting and I haven't had an issue yet so I figured I am more than comfortable with staying with the Mossberg family. I topped it with a Nikon P-Tactical Spur red dot as well. Again, I have used Nikon P-Tactical on my last 2 rifles and I haven't found any issues yet so I figured I should just continue on that course as well. I also installed a Limb Saver recoil pad and a Quake sling to match the gun. Here's a pic and some links where I made my purchases. I bought the gun at Gauntlet Gun shop in Kouts, IND. www.gauntletgunshop.com/I bought the Nikon P-Tactical Spur from Heart of Texas Armory www.heartoftexasarmory.com/Sling and recoil pad from Midway USA www.midwayusa.com/

It's been ages since I owned a shotgun. But I used to buy a box of 25 shotgun shells for a lot less than $10 back in the day. I can't believe you guys are paying so much for only 5 shells. I would go broke doing that.
I went to Marx BBQ Join and bought 4.5 lbs of smoked turkey for $45 for Thanksgiving.
I used lead shot back in the day for squirrels, rabbits, and waterfowl. The last time I hunted with a shotgun I borrowed my neighbors Remington Model 870 Wingmaster which shot 3" shells. I bought some non-lead shells for doves and went out to the local F&W area to hunt. Shot 6 doves and took them home. Cleaned and ate them for dinner. I have not hunted with a shotgun since. He asked for his gun back. He had two small kids and asked me to keep his guns at my house so that his kids would not get into them. When he moved he came and got his guns.
I'm still in shock thinking about the price of the HeviShot Shotgun Shells. It's no wonder we are losing numbers of hunters these days.

I think you did well with the Mossberg. I have one Remington firearm, but I`m not a fan of them, for several reasons. My turkey gun is a Browning BPS Wild Turkey Federation medel, and it`s ok, but the Mossberg would likely be better.
